As promised, here are my picks for my two conferences. Big night for both of these conferences as positioning becomes imperative.
Picks:
Cal Poly SLO (+6.5)
Hawaii (-7.5)
Reasons:
Cal Poly SLO (+6.5) @CSUN
This will be a good game and Braswell's Matadors are a tough bunch at home, but I am telling you Cal Poly is playing their best ball at the right time. Stockalper will have a great game and the key to this matchup will come down to rebounding and defense. This is where the Mustangs have a significant advantage over CSUN. Cal Poly has an incredible pressure defense and rebounds extremely well. The Matadors are perhaps the worst rebounding team in the Big West. Heard and Efevberha are great scorers, but that is symbolic of how this Matadors team is this year. They play individual offense and no team defense. In the last meeting, Cal Poly won at home 73-54 and were out rebounded 37-22. Expect more of the same tonight. I also like Whiten who has gotten better with each game. Turnover free play and might surprise the conference with freshman of the year award. I am all over Cal Poly tonight.
New Mexico St. @ Hawaii (-7.5)
This should be a fantastic game and huge two game stretch for Hawaii. This game is a battle for second place and UH controls their own destiny. The Warriors are undefeated at home in conference play with impressive victories against Utah St and Nevada. This team becomes a different team at home. They are so fluid and seem to always be playing a step above their competition whenever any team visits Stan Sheriff Center. I feel the three headed monster of Sensley, Gueye, and Lojeski will be too much for the Aggies. The Warriors are lights out at home. In conference games at Stan Sheriff Center they shoot 48.8% from the field where their opponents shoot a dismal 36.9%. New Mexico also is 3-4 on the road in conference and 5-8 overall. My only concern is their success at the charity stripe. Hawaii's free throw shooting is an embarassing 64% and must do better than that when given the opportunity for free points. I don't think it should be a problem in this game as the Warriors shoot 76% from the free throw line at home. A significant increase from their overall average. I really like Hawaii.
I have a small lean play that I will be laying down as well:
San Jose State/Nevada Under 138.5
