a buddy and I (both of us love to shoot pool) were lamenting the fact that lately, everytime we turn over to ESPN2 during the day, there is frikkin' Karen Corr shooting 9 ball, lol! If she's not playing against Jeanette Lee, then Lee is commentating. "The Black Widow" lmfao!

I enjoy watching pool a little, but you would think there could be some alternate programming that would be a bit more interesting during the day.

6-5 -- 12 - 1 EST is ESPN's "Parlor hour" now. This includes programming such as pool, poker, darts, etc. It seems like it's always women's pool or trick shot competition. I thought it was a good idea because I eat lunch in front of a TV, but there is very little footage that they have to show.

I think Allison Fischer is a hottie!

no wonder it's on so much, dawgball, I didn't know that! There are several women hottie pool players, Karen Corr is not one of them, lmao!

Thanks for the responses guys! I play often and enjoy watching the pros play, women or not. The womens matches on ESPN seem to be more updated. I recently saw a match from the end of 2003, Korr vs Lee I think. I don't know if the WPBA has a contract with ESPN or what, but the mens matches need to be updated. I saw a match the other day btw Innomen and Bustamante that was from 2001 for cryin out loud, and it was the fourth time I've seen it. I wonder what the problem is with the mens game not getting much pub, anyone know? I think the game is growing in popularity every year and I think it would gain more attention if some more mens matches were shown. :shrugI mean games that happened in the last 6 months or so. N E thoughts

I think the problem with the men's matches is that they are heavy into showing 9 ball. That isn't the most exciting game to watch because the players make such few errors, that games last only a few minutes. Maybe if they put on one pocket or even straight pool, people would find it more interesting. For real billiard enthusiasts, nine ball isn't much of a game except for gambling.

I agree that some other games might be fun to watch. The problem is that mainstream america could care less about 9 or 8 ball let alone straight pool or a one pocket game that could last over an hour. I don't think that no mistakes makes 9 ball boring to watch. There are many things to watch for besides mistakes. Position play, shot selection, and safety play to name a few. My point was though that mainstream america might start to enjoy watching the game a little more if a tournament that happened in the last 6 months was shown or god forbid, LIVE! Crazy idea I know

I've complained about the same thing several times, z. I have seen the matches that they show so many times, I can pretty much name the shot on each one now. The one from yesterday with Karen Corr and the young Asian girl (not Lee) is the best one because you see great play and then a major choke job. I think it's the 2003 Ladies US Open. It's nice to see that the professionals blow opprotunities as well.

A few years back, there was some young stud on the men's tour and I thought that would propel their stature. But there was no follow up at all.

I always see these tourneys at either ESPNZones or Tribal Casinos. I wish they would have one here in Atlanta at ESPNZone. Lord knows that's the only reason I would ever step foot in the place!

Dawgball,

I know the match you're talking about. And thinking back, you're exactly right, the mistakes did add to the drama and suspense. So I stand corrected, mistakes do make the game more fun to watch. But if that is the case, why do ESPN and the pro pool associations create an even easier game like 7 ball instead of showing the before mentioned 1 pocket and straight pool. I know the idea is for a fast paced game that is time friendly, but they always move ahead in the match with editing anyway. So I guess the question is, who or where do I get in cantact with some one that might have some decision power on this topic? I think you would agree that there are a lot of pool fans out there that feel the same as we do.

Use to play lots of pool years ago--before golf. Played against fellow by name of--
Buddy Hall from Paducah--got beaten soundly
St Louie Louie --was said to have died of over dose--but believed killed-beaten soundly again
-Howard Vicory --was in movie color of money--wore coke bottle glasses/pony tail--won because bar closed but lost wager on Hearns/Leonard match same night.

Best 8 ball bar player I ever saw was fellow named Matlock from Rolla Mo.

Best hustler I ever saw was CA Bob (actually school teacher from Denver) his fav gimmick was playing oppnent with plunger stick from rest rooms or broom stick--seriously.

Gave up pool after moving to BG after incident at place called Orange Bar--decided to take up golf and hang wih better crowd. :)
One of best decisions I ever made.:0074
