yesterday morning, i was walking to my car and i saw a baby bird laying by my tree. my wife and i didnt know what to do, so we left it in the garage with some bread and water. i got back from work and my wife said it was actually eating a bit and than playing in the water. this morning i go to the garage and the bird went outside. i figured it was gonna just take off. well a few hours ago, i go outside and i hear it chirping again this time its by the tree and now if find another baby bird. what the hell should i do. say screw it and let them die or if i take care of them, what should i feed them or how do i take care of them.

Isn't this how "Brooks" from shawshank redemption started?

My Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter side thinks if the baby birds have fallen out of the nest and you have touched them, the mother will reject them. Leaving the nest and whatever birds remain.

perhaps opening a bird sanctuary?? Fire up the grill??? Just kidding

You can call animal control, they might have something to say or do about it. GL with what you do, Sorry about you luck

Buy a tiny little bird sweater so he doesn't get cold. Plenty of places online to find these sweaters. Also, the flouride found in city water has been linked to diabetes in lab rats, so only serve him bottled water.

i got sucked into this problem about a year and half ago. luckily i had a friend who is worse than i so then she had the problem. to make sure it was fed alright till it could fly away she went to the local per store and bought something called monkey bread, soaked it a little bit with water then would feed it. it ended up a few weeks later seeing some other birds in my yard like it and flew away. who knows what happened to it. but at least there was no guilt.

We had this problem about a year ago, and we have a local bird rescue group here that you can call. They told us that touching a bird and putting it back in the nest, and the mother rejecting it is just a myth. They said that birds have a very poor sense of smell. We did this and the mother bird came back and started feeding the baby birds.

well i found the nest, i put the birds back in there and put the nest back in the tree. well both birds jumped out. so now i just have them in a cardboard box. i put some bread and water in there. the little one is kind of freaked out and the bigger one is sleeping. my wife wants to get like a eye dropper and start feeding it, but i would think just get some bread and soak it in some water and they might eat it. i think the big one will be ok, but the little one, im not sure about yet. i put the next in the card board box and i put the little bird back in there.

the rejection after human touch is a myth. Can you tell me what kind of birds these are? What stage of development are their feathers? Are they "fluffy", or do they still look they are encased? I would say bread is probably not the food of choice. If you really want to take care of them, you can go to the bait store and buy some crickets or waxworms. Most any bird will eat that.

From what little you have posted, I would say they are close to maturity and might possibly make it if you can keep the neighborhood cats away from them until they can fly. Post what they look like and what you think they are, and that will help also. What did the next look like? Was the bottom of it packed with mud, or was it just a bunch of branches everywhere? Are these birds 2 inches long bigger, how big?

huh wish I would have known that last year when I stopped my car while driving because I saw a intire family of baby ducks laying upside down on there backs in a puddle of water, some were squashed and the others were just a little messed up..............The mother duck was on the side of the road just watching making strange noises
:142crying I drove away feeling like Tony Soprano that night, so sad...............

here is a FYI for ya six.............did you know that ducks mate for life????????? If you ever see one duck it is a lonely duck for the rest of its life because they never re marry (not that you would really care because you would just want to shoot it anyway LOL) please don't take offense to that last statement , I grew up with two brothers who hunted EVERYTHING ..................I just learned that recently LOL :)

tbonez, ducks don't mate for life, but Canada Geese do. However if their mate gets killed, they find a new one, they just don't go around being celibate, lol!

I have even seen animals with great sense of smell, like Whitetail deer, accept fawns that have been handled.

well the little bird died over night. i don't think it had really a chance. i tried feeding it but it wouldn't do anything. the other guy is allright though. i still have him in the garage and actually this morning i went in there and i think the mother bird was in there, because a bird flew out of the garage when i walked in there. he seems ok, but hasn't eaten much. i wonder if i should put him back out there again, or just hold onto him till he gets bigger

any ideas

the baby bird that died seems about the size of my thumb, but the other one is bigger and is about the size of my palm. he seems like he can fly a bit, but when he fell out of his nest i think he hurt himself

when i was little we used to have a pet duck. the baby was trapped in a sewer drain and we got down there and let him loose, but he kept swimming back to us, he wouldn't go anywhere. we ended up taking him home. it was preety cool, but my fricking neighboor killed it, when he left it in the garage, with no windows open or anything like that.

put him outside, sounds like his mother is still trying to take care of him. Put him under a bush maybe. She will hear him chirping.

well i set the box outside and the mother and i think the father are taking care of him. i just don't know if i should leave the box outside the whole night or bring it into the garage again. i put the next in the tree before, but like i said he jumped out.

but it seems like the mother is only coming around every hour.

On the ducks: Don't know about the mating for life bit but I did see one duck hanging around for quite awhile around the body of another that had been hit by a car.
