Circuit City to offer same price

According to this article, all of Circuit City's prices will be the same across the board. Phone, Web, Store.

Circuit City to offer same price in stores, on Web

RICHMOND, Va. -- Circuit City Stores Inc. has started offering the same prices in its stores as on its Web site in an effort to beef up its rapport with customers in hopes of increasing store traffic and sales, the company said Tuesday.

Retailers sometimes offer different prices on Web sites and in stores, though some retail consultants say such practices can make customers less trusting when they find out about them.

The move comes as the nation's No. 2 electronics retailer heads into a crucial holiday shopping season that could determine its future, amid a weak consumer spending environment that has even the least vulnerable retailers worried.

"(It's) no secret this holiday season is probably one of the most important ones in our history as a company and with these equities in place, we feel pretty good about it," Jeff Maynard, Circuit City's vice president of marketing, said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"At the end of the day, what this is all about is trust. When consumers look at this promise ... I think they will be very impressed with the prices that we're putting out there."

Under the new "One Price Promise" policy, the company will automatically charge the same price through all of its sales channels, which also include a call center.

The policy expands Circuit City's "Unbeatable Price Guarantee," which matched lower prices from its Web site and those of bona fide local competitors upon the customer's request.

In some cases, online retail channels have offered lower prices than those of brick-and-mortar stores, allowing companies to make more money on in-store sales; in other cases, in-store pricing was lower. Maynard said the company believes any loss in margin will be "more than made up for by the value of the equity in terms of building and driving more traffic."

But consumers would be shocked to find price differences between sales channels and Circuit City's move just corrects a practice that has lost it traffic in the past, said George Rosenbaum, chairman of Leo J. Shapiro and Associates, a Chicago-based retail research firm.

"They've committed a cardinal sin and now their promise of one price ... it'll be a ho-hummer, it'll be 'so what,' because that's the expected norm," Rosenbaum said.

Ellen Davis, vice president for The National Retail Federation, said research from its online arm, Shop.org, shows 70 percent offer consistent pricing across sales channels.

"What retailers are trying to do by creating consistent pricing is give customers the option to shop wherever they want to shop, however they want to shop as long as it's with them," Davis said. "With retailers understanding that consumers are on a budget it makes sense to create pricing structures that will make it easier for them to shop."

Circuit City, which has seen only one profitable quarter since the second quarter of 2007, posted a wider second-quarter loss last month with a 13.3 percent decline in consolidated same-store sales in the three months ended Aug. 31.

In response, the company said it would renew its focus on customer service as Chief Financial Officer Bruce H. Besanko cited significant declines in traffic, heightened competition and a weakened brand position.

Circuit City is pushing the initiative through a print, broadcast, Internet and in-store marketing and hoping to gain market share over its largest competitors, including Best Buy Co. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

"We think this is a compelling enough offer that engenders trust with consumers that we'll see some share shift," Maynard said. "We're counting on taking some business from our competitors."

they will match anyone's price on the same product.

Unfortunately, it has to be from a local "brick & mortar" store. you can't buy something from an online retailer and have them price match it. Has to be from a real store you can walk into.

They'll beat that price by 10% of the difference as well. So there are some good deals to be had.

One thing to remember with CC. If you are an AAA member you get 8% of all your purchases with a coupon that can be picked up through AAA.

Subject: Sears - Christmas shopping has already started

I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

It's verified ! BySnopes.com at:

Best Buy Secret Sale Item Listing Released

Best Buy just released their Black Friday Secret Sale Item listings on their website.

The list is divided into two sections, the first are deals that will be available both online and in-store, while the second are deals that will be available in-store only. We have posted the online available items in our 13-item Best Buy Online Black Friday listing.

Best Buy states that you will be able to "start shopping early at BestBuy.com on Thursday, Nov 27th," but does not list a time.

What's funny is that all but one item, in the in-store only list, were already advertised in the Best Buy Black Friday advertisement. The item missing from the Black Friday advertisement? The HP G50-104NR Laptop with Canon 3-in-1 Printer.

According to the Secret Sale List this laptop will be $349.98, however, when you click on the link, the price shows $279.99.

We're currently trying to find out which price is accurate and will update when we learn something.
