Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville doesn't like to tip his hand about which goaltender will play from game to game. Heck, Quenneville doesn't like to reveal much at all to the media. So when he says "there's a good chance that's happening" when I asked him following Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins if he'll change goalies for Sunday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, you can pretty much book it.
So expect rookie Antti Niemi to make his second career start Sunday afternoon at the United Center after Cristobal Huet handled the duties in Boston. Huet took the loss after stopping 34 of 38 shots sent his way.
The Hawks showed a bit of inconsistency during Saturday's game but still found themselves with a chance to come out with at least a point. Troy Brouwer was among two or three players with good chances to tie the game late in the third period after the Hawks rallied from a 4-1 deficit to get within a goal. The Bruins' Tim Thomas was strong in the final moments.
"We were just kind of stop-and-go," said Hawks captain Jonathan Toews, who tied the game at 1-1 in the second period. "I don't think we played consistent enough. That's frustrating especially when you get down a couple of goals after you had things going your way. They're a good team and we gave them too many chances."
