Antti Niemi will get another chance at starting back-to-back games as he's been tabbed by Joel Quenneville to be in net Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.Niemi broke the Hawks' three-game losing streak Saturday in St. Louis with a 34-save performance. The Hawks won 2-1 as the Blues managed only a 5-on-3 power-play goal late in the contest.

In the only other time Niemi started back-to-back games, he was pulled after the first period after giving up three goals to the Vancouver Canucks. He's happy to get another shot.

"I just have to make sure it [getting pulled] doesn't happen again," Niemi said after Monday's practice.

Cristobal Huet was in net during the three-game slide, and as has been the case whenever Niemi has earned extra playing time, he understands Quenneville's decision.

"The end result the last three games [wasn't good]," Huet said. "I can only blame myself for not getting the job done. I didn't get any bounces, but I felt pretty good those games to give the team a chance but it didn't happen."

Huet was asked if it was upsetting he won't be starting on Tuesday.

"No it's not upsetting," he said. "It's the way it is. I didn't get the job done. Antti did a good job in St. Louis, so yeah, I understand."

Niemi was coming off a bout with the flu on Saturday when he earned his 14th win of the year against five losses. The flu prevented him from playing in a scheduled start last Wednesday, which meant he hadn't played in two weeks. It didn't affect him. In fact, he was happy he was tested early in Saturday's game."Coming from being a little sick and losing the game in Vancouver, it was great to get a couple shots early," Niemi said. "I don't know if you get used to not playing for two weeks, but it hasn't bothered me too much. I try not to think about it too much."

One reason Niemi could be starting is the matchup on Tuesday. Huet has lost twice to the Stars this season and was pulled in one those contests. It remains to be seen if a changing of the guard in net could occur after the Olympic break.

Ott and Fistric out for trip

Some pretty big news out of practice this morning.

Steve Ott had an emergency appendectomy this morning. It went well. He will miss the road trip.

Mark Fistric skated this morning to test his knee, but it didn?t go well. He will have arthroscopic knee surgery. He will miss the road trip.

The Stars hope both will be back right after the Olympic break.

Mike Ribeiro will play tomorrow.

The Stars have called up forwards Ray Sawada and Francis Wathier. A defenseman is expected to be called up later.

Nothing changes at the goaltending position. It?s Marty Turco.

About the Stars

The Stars (26-21-11) are coming off a 4-0 win over Phoenix at the American Airlines Center Saturday. It was the Stars' 10th win in their last 12 home games. Marty Turco stopped 34 shots for his third shutout of the season and the Stars scored twice in the first and two more times in the second to take control of the game.

"We had a strong game tonight,? Stars coach Marc Crawford said. ?We haven?t had a lot of games where we?re really comfortable coming into the third period. We did a lot of things that we needed to do. We knew they were a team that this was their third in four nights with travel, and you?ve got to make it a hard game."

Turco is expected in goal for the Stars, who are kicking off a three-game road trip with Tuesday's game.

The Stars activated Mike Ribeiro from IR on Monday and placed D Mark Fistric on IR. RW Ray Sawada and LW Francis Wathier were recalled from Texas (AHL).

Injuries: LW Steve Ott (appendix), D Mark Fistric (knee), LW Brian Sutherby (shoulder) and C Tom Wandell (ACL) are out.

About the Blackhawks

The Blackhawks (38-15-5) snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) with a 2-1 win in St. Louis Saturday night. Antti Niemi had 34 saves and Jonathan Toews had one goal and one assist as he, Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp were reunited on a line.

?We worked hard, got off to a good start and we knew it was going to be a tight game for three periods,? Toews said. ?That?s a good win, and that?s the kind of effort we need to keep showing up with every night.?

Niemi will get the start against the Stars.

The Blackhawks are opening a two-game homestand with Tuesday's game.

Injuries: RW Adam Burish (knee) is out.
