i'll make this short since i've got a crapload of cleaning up to do here....
I was without power and water for about 24 hours.....not fun when you have a baby to feed and trying to boil water is non existant....the wife was sick too, she had the flu....vomiting into a toilet that couldn't be flushed.....
my fawking house was 40 degrees celcius....basement was ok.....but a bit TOO cold.
- hung out at the parent's place today that had their power goin on and off throughout the day because of rotation plan set in place so that everyone had a fair shot of getting power in the city....
this blackout was NOT fun....a pain in the ass, but NOT fun.
- there was ALOT of looting in the streets.....especially in OTTAWA....???? go figure.
(trust me, i was tempted to join in...
)
- getting through on the cell phone / telephone network was crap...I was lucky...i phoned two peeps 5 minutes after the blackout....to see if it was city wide....it was......put my radio on and found out it was provincewide....
- called DR.STRANGELOVE later on that nite at his cottage one hour away....he was without POWER too....NOT FUN.
- anyone who has cable for internet is fawked and their internet will probably not work.
(I have DSL through the phone lines....:moon: )
- gas price gouging at some stations.....and FOOD price gouging......VERY dishonourable.....a black eye to those people....they were getting reported on air to the major radio station that was on air....i hope these people are punished...in a time of need they jack their prices up....unbelievable....!!??
- traffic lights were out in the city....people speeding through these intersections, not heeding to pedestrians.....
good stories?
- lots of parties in the streets.....
- lots of community grocery stores were helping out, giving away food before they spoiled.....
again, it wasn't the end of the world....but VERY annoying.
anyways, i gotta throw most food in my fridge away...
but an interesting experience nonetheless.....
my question is......why does my province SUCK so much that we don't have our own back up generators AND, why do we have to rely on an external out of province generator to give us power??????
when will politicians learn.....???
i'm glad they suffered as much as we did when this happened......:thefinger
