The OPP have confirmed that former NHL enforcer Bob Probert has died after being rushed to hospital with vital signs absent after collapsing in a boat on Lake St. Clair in Windsor, Ontario on Monday.

Windsor radio station AM 800 CKLW first reported that emergency crews performed CPR on the former Red Wings and Blackhawks' forward and then transported him to Windsor Regional Hospital where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The Probert family has called a news conference at 6pm local time at Windsor Regional Hospital to issue a statement.

One of the most feared fighters in the history of the NHL, the Windsor native scored 163 goals and added 221 assists and whoppinig 3,300 penalty minutes in 935 career NHL games.

While Probert's bouts with the likes of Tie Domi and Marty McSorley were legendary, he was also an incredibly skilled player who played in the 1988 NHL All-Star game. A star on the ice, Probert battled his demons off the ice, including well documented problems with the law as well as alcohol and substance abuse. He also spent time in an NHL-supervised substance abuse treatment center.

Probert was 45 years old.

I always tried to watch as many Wings games when Probert was on the team.
The most anticipated fight the 2nd with Tie Domi at MSG was my asbolute favorite fight of all time.
Probert threw 57 punches, forearms and so many landed on Domi.
I couldn't wait for this fight was just fantastic :00hour
He and Joey Kocur were probably the best 2 fighters on any team.
The alcohol and blow did him in for sure :(
He gave me many nights of excitement and great fights.
Those were the good days 80's and 90's plenty of fisticuffs :toast:

RIP Bob Probert :sadwave:

Dont think so.Got caught with coke at the border and wasn't allowed able to come back to Canada for a while. He was actually allowed back but then wouldn't be allowed to the U.S. So he stayed in US for a couple years till he got his legal issues fixed up.

I don't think he was ever charged with manslaughter. He cleaned his life up and then he dies in front of his 4 kids. Man that is rough:(

I have said it 100 times. There is no tougher job in all of sports then the NHL enforcer, unbelievable what those guys go through.....wow:scared

And Probert wasn't just the games best enforcer, he was a damn good player too. Made the all star team one year and was on a line with Gretzky in that game.
Nobody was safe when a riled up Probie was on the ice, including the goalies. Bob probably ran more goalies in his career than any other hockey player in history.
