HELL
Had mine done this morning, 17%. I guess not bad for almost 38 years of age. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but a far cry from my basketball playing days and being at 7%.

I have always hit the weights pretty hard, but now trying to clean up my diet. I am officially 2 days into complex carb free, and I want to shoot someone. This is painful. I want a pizza in the worst way or a beer or a mountain dew.

Not sure how long I can keep this going, coupled with good cardio 4-5 days a week, and still hitting the weights about the same. Wow, just 2 days in and my overall strength is no where near what it used to be. Weird.

Don't know how some do it, because this just flat out sucks. I got the shakes right now....

ok I cringe anytime I see this but

ok I cringe anytime I see this but

take it for what its worth. You can't cut carbs completely. Yes, get rid of the processed "non real food", but fruits and veggies are a must. Your brain only functions on carbs!! So yes, without carbs you will feel weak, fatigued, and irritable!!
If you just take out the foods that supply energy to your body, you will crash and burn and then gorge on lots of bad shit because you cannot fight hormonal responses to food!
Eat protein, fat, carbs in EVERY meal 4-5 times a day coupled with what you are doing. Takes a little prep time but well worth it. Whenever in doubt choose "real foods" over processed "science" foods. Eat anything that grows out of the ground or on trees or animals that eat these things.
Off the soapbox, sorry, but you must eat carbs or you will f yourself. gl:toast:

I have used this plan with success....and a few of the guys I work out with are big advocates of it as well....takes lot of planning but that far outweighs the energy depletion and tired feelings of a no-carb diet.

If you can plan your workouts around the high-carb days, your strength should not be effected greatly, if at all....

Courtesy and full plan is found here:(http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/par30.htm)

The Concept: Cycling 101

There are three types of days while on this diet:

High Carb
Low Carb
No Carb Days

Generally, the three days are rotated, or cycled, equally. Again, I will stress that this can, and should, betweaked, based on the individual's goals, geno and pheno-types, and dieting history. Indeed, much of this will be discussed in future installments. Here, we will lay out the basic plan, which is designed for relatively rapid fat loss for most individuals.

Carbohydrate manipulation is the key here, with the rotation of carb intake training your metabolism to burn at a rate of high carb consumption even on the low carb days, which will in turn burn body fat.

Check out the article if you are interested, it's pretty easy to follow, and is a lot less painful to get through the no carb days knowing a high carb day is around the corner.

Day to day was....case in point, when I do shoulders, I start with standing military press and get to 185 for 5 clean reps, no knee bend. Now I had on 155 and lucky I got 5 reps and cheated for one set. The telltale will be chest day on Saturday.

They say you are supposed to feel better, more energy, I don't know right now I want to go back to bed. I had a chicken breast, 3 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, and a protein shake after my workout this morning, couple with about 60 ounces of water thus far.

I have never dieted in my life, I am one of THOSE people that can eat anything anywhere anytime of day, but just got the itch to try something else. I doubt I can make it because my mind is thinking PIZZA right now.

Then your approach is way too drastic...it sounds like your diet is quite extreme....

If your diet is effecting your workouts that dramatically from the start, then it's counterproductive.

JR11,

I have a protein supplement, that is exactly what gatorade is pushing now, but we have had it out for over a year.

15 grams of protein per ounce.

We do have several professional athletes addicted to the product as well as several Professional Sports Teams.

Shoot me an email and I will direct you to the information.

Email is on my profile page, same as my yahoo messenger. ******@yahoo.com :toast:

Not trying to lose weight per se as I am only about 184 lbs and 5'10", just trying to tighen it up a little. Yes I am still having carbs, just getting rid of the complex carbs as mentioned above. I still each veggies and fruits.

Made it through lunch, which is the hard part for me. Dinner will be fish, peas, zucchini, and blueberries. Protein shake later in the evening. Tough to maintain is all I am trying say, given that I am italian and ate pasta/bread with everything.

How many calories were you taking in on avg per day? You probably don't want to go much more than 250-300 less than that each day especially while working out. But you have to realize as you cut the calories, its is damn near impossible to keep your strength numbers up too, becomes counter productive. I have to do this with clients all the time, what is your goal? Truly define it and if you want to lean a bit, then realize you eat less calories but not so much it impairs your energy levels that you feel like crap all day. So you may have to lessen expectations on strength gains of course and eat upwards 5 to 6 "clean" small meals a day.

Thanks. I know keeping it to 5-6 meals per day is the key. I also realize the days of me bench pressing, squatting, or dead lifting over 300 lbs are over right now, which I am fine with. I just want to see if I can tighten myself up a little, and it is not as if I look bad. It's funny, for years I always got accused of using the needle, and people are amazed when they see I only weigh about 184 or so, most thought around 205-210, which I was before my wife died. Im clean and always have been, just want to eat better thats all and it is hard and takes serious discipline.

I won't even mention my BF% its a constant work in progress. That fucking scale is my enemy even when I'm working out. I just have faith that good eating habits and exercise will conquer all and keeping it simple is the best way to do it.
