can't understand why people aren't talking about this........Portland up by 2 with the season on the line......10 seconds left and LA with the inbound.....now the only thing that is going to beat you is a 3 point shot.......why don't you foul immediately.....the most they can get is 2.....then you still have time to make another shot or win it it overtime.......does Portland foul ?.........NOOOOOO......and guess what happens......this is a perfect example of Murphy's law.....and why the Portland coach should be fired

Please don't beat me

I don't know about fouling up only 2. You don't want to give them two free throws to tie up the game, but you sure as hell don't give them a wide open 3.

When it was a 4 pt game the 3 pt line should have been completely covered or they could of even fouled in that situation. You can't make up 4 pts trading free throw. Only when you allow them to take 3z and then miss your free throws.

Also, what the F would be the reason to leave your man on the last play and come double Bryant when he is inside the 3 pt line and leave your man alone for an open 3.

Overall I agree with the bad coaching. Portland just thought the game was over and LA would just miss and hand it to them, but don't they know they are Portland and they can blow a game many different ways.

I don't think fouling (unless shaq caught the ball) makes any sense at all when you are only up 2. With that said, you can't give up a three....when Kobe drove, you have to make him make a shot to tie the game....whoever it was that helped off of Horry caused the problem there....it allowed Kobe a clear pass and Horry had a wide open three....just a simple case of not understanding that a three kills you, but a tough 17 footer (which Kobe would've had) only gets them OT and you still have a shot at the win. I don't know if Maurice Cheeks made that point clear enough during the time-out...he should've beat the point home...."NO HELP off the ball....we can't allow a three here...worse we get is OT!!!" Maybe he did say this and the players just didn't listen. I don't know who is to blame on that team, the coach or players....there are so many head cases up there in Portland, it is hard to tell.

You Portland folks will love this, I think it was Pippen who left Horry open, the same Pippen who missed the free throw. Since Portland was full of headcases well before Cheeks became coach, you can assume this was Pippen's fault.

I remember Temple doing this a few yrs back against Seton Hall, the year Temple realling had a shot at the national title. The thing to to is play tight man to man defense, dont double team and under no circumstances go up an open 3............Thats the only thing that can beat you at that point.......Even if you play so tight you give up a layup, you are better off than giving up a 3....
