Overall 0-2, -2.30
Look to get into the win column today with the early game in Boston.
Arizona @ Boston:
Schilling Vs Martinez it does not get much better
than this as far as pitching match ups go as these
teams play the second game in a three game set at
Fenway this afternoon. Although both of these pitchers
are outstanding, Schilling has pitched much better of
late to include winning eight straight. Martinez has
actually struggled in is last several starts and would
have taken the loss in a few of them if he was not
bailed out be Red Sox hitting. There is no doubt that
there has to be value in taking Schilling at plus
money but I am bit reluctant to pull the trigger
instead have to look at the total.
The lines makers have installed this game at 7 due to
the great pitching match up; however at closer
inspection the over has provides solid reasoning to
back the over. Both pitchers get great run support as
the Diamondbacks give Schilling 6.9 per game on the
year and Boston supplies Martinez with 7.2. Martinez
has given up four runs in his last two starts, and
although Schilling is pitching well he is 0-2 with an
era over 5 against the red sox. The two starters also
combine for a 17/8 O/U record on the year. Schilling
is on a over hot streak as they have cashed in his
last five straight, eight of his last ten, and two
straight against Boston.
If the starters cannot go the distance don?t look for
the pens to hold down the fort as Boston?s pen has
been beat up in the last three appearances yielding an
era of over 8, while Arizona slides in just under 5.
Don?t look for the umpire to bail them out by cutting
corners. Tim Welke is behind the plate and the over
has cashed in 8 of his twelve starts to include four
out of his last five, two straight when behind the
plate for the Diamondbacks, and his last two when
behind the plate with Martinez. He averages allowing
ten runs a game over his last three years and this
year he comes in at 10.23 and when he has faced a
total of 8 or lower this year it is 3-0
