Right-hander Ben Diggins will start the 2nd game of DH tomorrow vs Cubs, on Tuesday another rookie will get a start.(Pember)
Glendon Rusch will start the 1st game vs Wood tomorrow.

also....CF for the Brew-Crew.....
Alex Sanchez has a broken left fibula and is out for the season.

Right-hander Dave Pember skipped Class AAA and the Milwaukee Brewers' bullpen and landed in the starting rotation.

Pember was called up from Class AA Huntsville before the game Friday but didn't pitch; now he is scheduled to make his big-league debut against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. He takes the place of left-hander Andrew Lorraine, who was sent to the bullpen after giving up five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings Thursday vs. Chicago.

Pember, 24, is the second pitcher the Brewers have called up directly from Huntsville this season, following right-hander Matt Childers, who was demoted to Class AAA Indianapolis last week. Brewers manager Jerry Royster said pitchers are better equipped than hitters to make the leap from Class AA to the majors.

"The minor leagues should be all about getting ready to become a major-leaguer, not to become a (Class AA) pitcher and face Birmingham or whoever," he said. "It should be about developing, and as long as that is the message throughout the organization, it shouldn't be a big deal."

Pember said he should be more comfortable debuting as a starter since that was his role for all but one of his 45 games in the minors.

Pember, who last pitched Monday, ranked third in the Southern League in ERA at 3.17, was tied for fifth in victories with 10, and was fifth in innings pitched with 156. He said he throws a sinker that runs in on right-handers, as well as a changeup and a slider.

Pember could be the second pitcher from Huntsville to make his debut this week.

many thanks IE!

the link at Brewers site to Diggins story is dead now. wasn't earlier, I read it!

but got this off ....http://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/20020728trans.shtml

from July of this year:

MILWAUKEE BREWERS

Traded 1B/3B/C?-L Tyler Houston and a PTBNL to the Dodgers for RHP Ben Diggins and LHP Shane Nance; recalled DH-R
Izzy Alcantara from Indianapolis. [7/23]

Optioned RHP Nelson Figueroa to Indianapolis; purchased the contract of LHP Jimmy Osting from Indianapolis. [7/24]

There's some good news here, at least insofar as the Brewers acquired some talent in exchange for investing a couple of years of
playing time on a bit of waiver fodder like Tyler Houston. Ben Diggins may not work out as a starter--a 3.63 ERA in the Florida State
League is not a badge of honor--but he's the kind of pitcher scouts drool over, 6'7" with heat that can get into the high 90s when his
mechanics are sound. He's worth nabbing, even if he doesn't master a breaking pitch or a change-up; the return on a gas-pumping
closer can be a lot higher than Tyler Houston will ever be. If Diggins develops as a starter, then so much the better.

MLBeat: Diggins gets the call

By Mark Schmetzer / Special to MLB.com

CINCINNATI -- Ben Diggins knew he hadn't gotten off to a good start Friday for Double-A
Huntsville, but he didn't think he deserved to be pulled after lasting less than one inning
against Birmingham.

"I struggled a little bit," the 24-year-old right-hander admitted. "I threw something like 35
pitches. I was thinking, 'What's going on?'"

What was going on was the Brewers had decided to purchase Diggins' contract from
Huntsville and call him up to the Majors on Monday, the first date active rosters are
allowed to be expanded from 25 players.

Shortstop Bill Hall was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis at the same time, and he and
Diggins arrived in Cincinnati in time for Milwaukee's game against the Reds Sunday at
Cinergy Field. Diggins was assigned to start the second game of the Brewers' Labor
Day doubleheader Monday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Diggins was part of the package acquired by Milwaukee from the Los Angeles Dodgers
in the Brewers' trade of Tyler Houston earlier this season. He was 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA
in seven starts for Huntsville.

"I was so surprised," the 6-foot-7, 230-pound Arizona native said. "I thought there were
a couple of other guys who would get here before I did, but you've got to take your
chance when you get it.

"This is everybody's dream. It's what you play the game for. It's an opportunity, and
you've got to make the most of it."

The 6-foot, 175-pound Hall, whose first appearance will be his major-league debut, hit
.227 in 133 games with Indianapolis. He was named Milwaukee's Minor League Player of
the Year last season, which he split between Single-A High Desert and Huntsville.
