Milwaukee @ Cincinnati

After a comeback win in the last inning for the Brewers yesterday, it gave the team something they have not had on the road all year, confidence.

"The fact is we are on an up," Brewers manager Jerry Royster said. "If we had ended up losing this road trip and ended up with the worst record in franchise for a half, you don't get anything for a half a season. We could have come back and had a great second half like we hope we have anyway and it becomes

This road trip has definitely been different," said second baseman Eric Young, who hit a game-winning double. "I think we have more continuity now, with guys knowing their roles and just playing to the best of their abilities."

Today they sent southpaw Rusch to the hill to face the reds and he knows them only too well. In fact his last start against the Reds was the worst all season. He allowed seven runs in just three innings and in his career he is a miserable 0-2 against the reds. Since that loss however he has pitched much better winning six out of ten, and three out of the last four for the reds when he has started. He has been exceptionally effective in his last three starts as he has a minute whip of just 1.07 and has kept his era below two at 1.61 while holding the opposition to just 1.3 runs per game.

Dessens goes for the reds today and although he has pitched well this year he has faltered of late as he has just two wins in his last six starts. Dessens was the winning pitcher in the last game Rusch fell apart and he has been on the great side of run support for most of the year. However this has changed in his last three starts and could be the reason for the losses as the Reds are giving him just 2.4 runs of support in that time frame. The coaching staff was concerned how Dessens would perform in the heat and bumped him until today, but there should be no rest at all as the temps are currently in the 90?s and are forecasted to be in the mid eighties around game time with high humidity. Reds right-hander Elmer Dessens was moved back one day to allow knuckleballer Jared Fernandez to pitch on his normal day.
?Elmer's been our best pitcher,? Boone said. ?We figured we'd back him off a day and let Jared pitch in the day game heat.?
Dessens had a little stiffness in his shoulder the day after his last start.

The Brewers are playing much better ball as of now and the visitor has won five straight in this series, and the reds have gone just 3-11 this year on Friday?s.
