? Mike Teel stood behind the line, saw the defense break -- and watched Jabu Lovelace throw the ball.

Rutgers' starting quarterback was limited in practice Monday, unable to throw the ball with his usual frequency because of a sore throwing thumb. Teel, who hurt himself three games ago, said the thumb was "bruised." Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said Teel's "got some areas on the whole hand" at issue, and the former promised none of it will keep him out of Saturday's game against No. 6 West Virginia.

"That's not happening," the junior from Oakland said. "I don't have any worry that that's going to be the case."

Schiano was a bit more cautious, insisting that "you don't play that position without practice." But he also said he trusted Teel to "tell the truth," that the second-year starter "won't go try to be the hero."

The Scarlet Knights practice today, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Boise State RB Johnson out for second week

Boise State tailback Ian Johnson has a bruised kidney, and will miss a second consecutive game Friday when the Broncos play a Western Athletic Conference game at Fresno State, coach Chris Petersen said after Saturday's 45-31 victory against Louisiana Tech, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Johnson became the Broncos' eighth starter to miss a game with an injury this year.

"(Doctors) decided he should sit two games," Petersen told the newspaper, "and as long as the X-rays kind of check out like they think they're going to, then we should get him back for San Jose (on Nov. 3)."

The junior running back was injured during the Oct. 14 game against Nevada.
