Broncos' QB decision may come Thursday
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
After months of uncertainty, a decision on Western Michigan University's quarterback situation is just a couple of days away -- at least for Week 1.
Broncos coach Bill Cubit said by Thursday he expects to choose either sophomore Tim Hiller or senior Thomas Peregrin to start the opener Sept. 1 at West Virginia.
Redshirt freshman Drew Burdi sprained his ankle last Thursday and, though orgininally expected to miss only Friday and Saturday's practices, might not return for another week. ``If he gets back Thursday, then he's got a chance,'' Cubit said, not completely rulling out Burdi.
``You've got to think you're going to have to get a guy (ready) on Thursday,'' WMU's coach continued. ``We'll play Thursday, Friday and start working in a little bit of West Virginia.''
Hiller has seen more time with the first team than Peregrin, but Cubit wanted it made clear Monday that nothing has been finalized.
NO MORE LOVE: Freshman defensive tackle Jacoby Love has left the program.
``He hurt his back and just didn't think he wanted to stick it out,'' Cubit said of the Pahokee, Fla., native.
Cubit also said freshman offensive lineman Andrew Yuds, who left camp more than a week ago, will not return.
