(AP)?Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri has been suspended for the season opener for slashing the ankle of a New York Islanders prospect during an exhibition game.
The league said Monday that Cammalleri will miss Thursday?s game at Toronto and forfeit more than $32,000 in salary. He was ejected from Saturday?s game after committing the penalty on Nino Niederreiter in the second period.
Cammalleri had a league-high 13 goals in 19 playoff games last season.
