Can't have both DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

So I moved to a new house and I have traditionally had DirecTV for my cable provider and Time Warner Cable for my internet provider. Well, apparently in my new house there is something called a "smartbox" where all of the wires to the house come in and has only one cable coming out so I can't have two separate providers. Does anyone know anything about this or ever heard of this?

*For the sake of preventing this from being a discussion on the quality of different providers lets say my parents work for DirecTV and my wife's parents work for Time Warner Cable and we have to have both.

I'd hookup DirecTV to the smart box and have time warner run dedicated line to modem which should be considered a basic installation.

To be clear, the dedicated line would run from outside source straight to the modem.
