This is a recapitulation of an earlier series on Aqueduct Wintertime racing. Hope it helps. Handicapping is boring, yet potentially profitable, at AQU in the winter if you follow these rules: 0. Avoid short fields, unless rule 3 , below , applies. 1. The rail is golden. 2. Early speed wins more than its fair share at this track; the winterized surface favors early speed, especially in off track conditions. These lead to a simple conclusion: 3) Play early speed, especially if its on or near the rail at odds of 7-1 or so and higher until they pry the DRF from your cold, clammy hands. For example, the feature in Saturday's race at AQU had an early speed horse, Scrappy T, going off at 10-1 or so. I followed rule 3 and hit a nice win ticket. You will hit many losers (after all, playing double digit longshots lends itself to many losers) but if you are consistent, you will hit a fair share of nice $15+ winners. Enough for a positive ROI? That depends. But track the early speed horses at AQU on paper for a couple of weeks and see if what I said above plays out.
