Minneapolis Public Schools On Second Day of Lockdown

Minneapolis Public Schools remain on lockdown after an Internet threat raised suspicious Wednesday morning.

The Minneapolis School District locked down all 60 of its buildings for the day after the threat said someone was going to shoot up a Minneapolis school and then end their own life.

The threat was found on two social networking sites, including Facebook, on Wednesday morning. It said the shooting would happen around 9:30 a.m.

Minneapolis schools were placed on "code yellow" status all day Wednesday, which means they were locked down but still observing normal student routines.

As a precautionary measure, the schools will stay on lockdown Thursday. That means students will stay indoors and the school buildings' exterior doors will remain locked.

Police say the Web threat that led to a lockdown of all Minneapolis public schools on Wednesday could have come from Australia.

The suspect who allegedly made the threat hasn't been in the United States in seven years, so police believe this is a prank but are continuing to look into it.

St. Paul Public Schools were not in lock down. However, some schools have tightened security as a precaution.

Really don't know much about it, although I noticed that on the news last night. We live an hour or so west of the cities, so it didn't directly affect us. I'm working in the cities today, but haven't heard anyone talking about it. Sounds like a hoax, and sounds like the administrators handled it in a prudent way. Various reports on how the school day went in different schools, but I think they handled it properly. Otherwise, every prank could cause chaos, any day somebody wanted to.

Sad times we live in, from that perspective. Nothing new, other than what you've seen, as of a little while ago.
