It is official. Junior Seau did have Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, the brain disorder that is showing up in droves in retired football players.

I love watching football like most of you on here, but how much longer can I enjoy it in good conscience? How much longer will the NFL survive? What is clear is that it will not survive without MAJOR changes. Even with the changes, it is going to be hurting when the lawsuits start getting paid out.

I am taking a hard look in the mirror and asking myself if my entertainment is worth the damage to other human beings, especially the long-term damage that the families players with CTE suffer when they start experiencing dementia. Is my weekend entertainment worth a family losing their father to suicide a few decades down the road? If I continue to watch football, am I any better than the Romans who cheered the bloodsports in the Colosseum?

These are hard and unpopular questions. I love football. I hope it can survive. I hope that substantial changes continue to be made so I can enjoy the game without guilt in my soul. I know many of you will be angry with me for posting this, but I feel it is important that this discussion be brought to the forefront of the sports world.

Check out this article from yahoo. While it was published a day or two ago (before the final report on Seau) it still casts a shadow of doubt on the most simple conclusions.

No doubt football contributes to these guys problems (it may even be the biggest factor), but I think the problem is more complex than that.

Don't forget, these guys choose to play this game. They know the risks, or are learning more about the risks and still choose to do it.

i have been screaming at NFL and on my local sports radio talk show for them to change the equipment.

Make it shock absorbing not hard plastic helmets with steel cages on them
NOT hard plastic pads with steel rivets more like the rubber used on todays autos like a 15 MPH impact no damage at all even at 20 mph

they have it in minor amature leagues from Toyota saw commercial

about mom said she dosen't worry anymore watching teen son play football

HEY it will work plus the heated fields in freezing cold stadiums soften the fall to ground.

but we cannot prevent the wacky knee bends and ankles from happening still a soft padded under skin will lessen the injury.
