Analysis:

Both teams have good defenses. Therefore I feel it will be a defensive game. However, Cincinnati has the offensive edge and I feel the defensive edge as well. Marshall coach is 5-1 in bowl games. But this was done with NFL QBs CHad Pennington and Byron Leftwich (reason why I look at NFL prospects at QB when playing bowl games). But they are no longer there to boast the coach's record. Marshall's Sr LB Dionte Wilson (a 3 year starter) is suspended and will not play. Backup LB and special teams standout Dennis Thorton is also suspended. Therefore, Marshall is going to be hurting at LB. Marshall's secondary proves to be very strong though as they have intercepted 17 passes this season. Marshall also opened the season starting off very strong losing to Troy 17-15, @Ohio Sate 24-21, and @Georgia 13-3. All these teams are winning teams, and they hung in though with them losing by all of them by a combined 15 points.

On Cincy's side, their defense is the key to their success. The contained Memphis' DeAngelo Williams to 57 yards and Danny Wimprine to 37 yards passing. They also contained TCU (ranked 11th nationally in scoring 35.9 ppg) to only 10 points and kept NCAA scoring leader Lonta Hobbs out of the endzone.

I feel that Marshall has been playing good on the road and Cincinnati has been inconsistent. However, Cincinnati has played well as of late winning 4 of the last 5 games. And even beat a good Southern Miss team on the road. Cincy did lose to Army 29-48 and to Louisville 7-70. And has a road record of 2-4. So that does concern me in terms of picking Cincy. But I feel that many of those loses were because of turnovers and special teams, somthing I fell can be corrected by game time. Also in the Louisville game Guidugli did not play and his replacements did misrable throwing for 2 INTS and 0 TDs. With Guidugli in the lineup (although not 100%) look for a totally different team.

Marshall does have a great defensive player in Godddard, who is gonna play on Sundays, but I feel the loss starting LB Wilson and backup Thorton will hurt Marshall. I also feel that with RB Earl Thomas being listed as questionable, he may not play, and if he does he will either not see much playing time or not be as effective. Cincy also has two great DE in Cole and Frazier, not just one like Marshall. Look for these 2 guys to pressure the QB Hill as he has to carry the load for Marshall's offense with RB Charles injured. I would normally go with Marshall being that they have a better road record, but with their players out, Cincy's QB back in the lineup, and Cincy's defense, I have to go with a play on Cincy. Not a big play, but a decent to smaller play on it. Also leaning on the under, but only playing the side.

2 Units: Cincinnati -1.5
