Supposedly the Aggies are seriously discussing dumping Fran Phoney and going after.......

Tommy Tuberville?

Supposedly he is chapped still over the near firing 2 years ago. Supposedly he doesnt like Jacobs at all and there are some high affluent boosters who would be just as happy to see Tubbs go.

You Auburn guys know anything on this? I personally want Fran to get a lifetime contract.

even though aTm has the cash(6 mill to buy out), they would be hard pressed to cough up it up after blowing it on Fran. CTT may have some ties to College Station but he was there only a year. He's been at AU much longer and is untouchable from an employment standpoint as long as he doesn't do something like getting caught with two ugly strippers in a hotel room. I'm not the least bit worried. He would have to start over there with Texas casting a bigger shadow than any SEC school does right now. I'm betting aTm gets someone like Butch Davis if Fran goes. He's got the track record plus he's much more affordable. If CTT jumps ship, I say they give Borges the HC job and don't look back.

in addition Tubs, his family, his assistant coaches all love Auburn and want to stay 4-5 more years until their kids get out of school. Tubs and his mother live on my street and all of the assistant coaches have moved their familes to Auburn and put down deep roots. In addition to the $6million plus buyout, CTT is not going to risk everything he has invested, both personally and professionally, in AU.

Tubby is going nowhere. Too much money to buyout his "lifetime" contract he received after Lowdergate. Maybe in a few years, he could be lured away, but too much $$$ to get him right now.

I too hope Franocchio gets a lifetime deal. The guy is wonderful for A&M!

Why would Tuberville leave Auburn for Texas A&M? Auburn is hands down a better job? Aggies have this delusional dream that Texas A&M is one of the top jobs in college football. Why I don't know. Bryan College Station is a shit hole, country hick town in the middle of nowhere and the students, yell leaders, fans and alumni are basically a weirdo cult.

If the Ags can somehow can Fran and attract another big-name coach its going to cost them dearly with what it will cost them to dump him and his contract. Mike Stoops? Interesting. I can't see him coaching against Bob in the Big 12.

Interesting info though Sun. Let us know what you continue to hear.

War Eagle I hate to tell you but nobody but folks at Auburn call that a lateral move. Plus we are paying him more.

i understand what you are saying Sun...

i was just saying moving from one BCS bowl winner to another is a lateral move...

would a DC moving from LSU/GA/Bama to Texas be lateral? or is this just a Texas is a better program than auburn comment?

From what I understand in coaching circles Texas would be an up move and not lateral from all of them. At one point I saw some anonymous coaches poll on the topic but havent been able to find it. I think Texas was listd in the Top 3 desirable gigs with Notre Dame and Michigan, I think. I am not trying bash Auburn at all.

Obviously the guy wants to be a head coach at amjor program and for whatever reason, right or wrong, he thought coming to Texas would give him a better shot.
