CofC hoping to rebound against Hofstra

A lot of coaches love to talk about how a team handles adversity.

A coach learn a lot about a team after a loss or a setback. The same, I believe, can be true for how a team handles a little success.

The Cougars were on a roll after their three-point win over James Madison last Thursday. It was a gritty, solid performance against a quality team. It showed what the Cougars are capable of when they are focused.

Two days later, the Cougars looked like a completely different team against William & Mary. The Tribe ran their ?Princeton? offense to near perfection in the first half and easily built a 20-point lead.

CofC did respond with a spirited second half, but by then it was too little, too late.

The Cougars are a young team -- three freshman and a sophomore will start Thursday against Hofstra -- and will continue to be inconsistent.

Again, it?s a process. Be patient.

Looks like Canyon Barry will miss Thursday?s game with Hofstra. His practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, but I?d be surprised to see him on the floor against The Pride. James Bourne is out another couple of weeks as well.

It?s too bad because CofC will need all hands on deck for this game against Hofstra.

I picked the Pride to win the CAA and nothing they?ve done so far has changed my mind. They also are a veteran team that has seen just about everything college basketball can offer. They have four guys averaging in double figures and have the best player in the league in Juan?ya Green.

Throw in Ameen Tanksley and the outside shooting of Brian Bernardi (who leads the CAA in 3-pointer shooting at nearly 50%) and this is a tough match-up for any team at full strength, let alone a squad missing its top scorer.

The encouraging thing is that Jarrell Brantley and Marquise Pointer were able to pick up the scoring slack in Barry?s absence in the 2nd half against William & Mary. I think we?re beginning to see the kind of potential both freshmen have in the last couple of games.
