Record To Date :

College Foots: 51-48-1 (-18.2 units)
HSF Degen: 21-18-1 (-4.8 units)

Hey MadJackers..

Unfortunately, I seemed to have contracted the NoroVirus so haven't had much strength. Not going to be much in the write-ups for games. Sorry!

For Today :

Boise St - 7 (bought the hook)..3 units...LOSS... . Of course I'm concerned with Bronco efforts against Colorado St. as Rams were able to get within 5. Byu has made me money this year, but don't trust that they can stay with Broncs on smurph turf. Home team is perfect 5-0 SU and Broncs are 7-2 last 9 ATS at home. Last time on the blue Broncs rolled 55-30, see if they can do it again.

S. Alabama /Troy Over 49...4 units..PUSH.. .. Jags have issues stopping the run, something Trojans do well. I think S. Alabama can get to 20 and if they do we should go over. According to some sources the Sharp's are on the Under, with that in mind I harken to Hilary and Michelle Obama ("when they go low we go high")

East Tenn St - 14' over WVA Wesleyan... 2 units...WINNER... Both teams are bad however whenever one of these Division II teams steps up bad things happen.

Be back with some HSF Degen picks including the big Mater Dei / St John Bosco pick.. Gl

HSF plays:

Eaglecrest - 23 over Castle View... 1 unit..WINNER...Another HSF game from Colorado. Eaglecrest Raptors are currently undefeated at 7-0 and looking to make some noise in the State 5A playoffs soon. I don't really see much of a hiccup here against Sabercats that are 3-4. Not sure how this one made the rotation, but I will bite behind a QB and Rbs that are averaging 35.9 ppg and average 236.7 rushing per game. Eaglecrest is coming off a 4-6 year that still dominated Castle View 31-3 last year.

Castle View managed a 1-9 record in 2015, so 3-4 is quite an improvement, however, they don't have the athletes to stay with Raptors. One common opponent is Rocky Mountain which Castle V won in OT. In Eaglecrest game against Rocky Mountain the Raptors scored 35 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Raptors Oline is big and athletic and led by Air Force commit Elijah Brockman... In addition if Eaglecrest wins they will be the only undefeated team in 5A Colorado. Sabercats simply don't have the firepower to stay with Raptors as they only manage 17 ppg.... Lay the chalk.

Doherty Spartans +26 against Grandview....LOSS... 2 units.. /Over 54'...WIN.... 2 units... *Another Colorado match that should provide more intrigue than the latter gridiron match. The winner can almost lay claim to the Mt Massive Crown as both teams are 2-0 in league and 6-1 overall. On paper, these two are nearly identical, as Doherty average 37.4 ppg, while Grandview 38.1. No doubt the Spartans are a big surprise. Not so much with Wolves, who are always in the State playoff competition. Spartans QB Zander Offutt has thrown 19 tds thus far and averages over 200 yards passing per game. (Got to like the QB name Zander).... On the other side, QB Gunnar Lamphere (good football name too) has thrown for 15 tds and rushed for 8 more as a true dual threat. In addition, RB Hayden Blubaugh is one of the states best Rbs as he already has 931 yards on the ground. The kid averages 7.5 yards per carry w/7 Tds.

Grandview is a juggernaut and has scored 158 points over the last 4 games. In last week's contest they scored 62 points. A very dangerous team, but 26 points is a lot for a team that can throw the ball efficiently as the Spartans. Hopefully Doherty can keep pace and this one flies over the total.

HSF Added :

Tumwater -20 over Black Hills... 1 unit...WINNER.... *I have no problem laying this much chalk with the Thunderbirds. TT comes in 6-1 with its only loss to a state powerhouse. Wolves are a respectable 4-3 but they always struggle with TT. Last year Black Hills was 9-2....one of its losses was to Tumwater 42-14. In fact, going back a few years it's more of the same. Losses by 48-7 (2014), 56-22 (2013), 35-7 (2012), 41-13 (2011), 54-7 (2010).....get the point. Don't ask me to buck history... Give me Tumwater.

West Allegheny / Woodland Hills Under 45'...LOSS.... 1 unit... *2 state powers in WPIAL collide in a fairly new rivalry. In fact, the history is only 2 games, each has split. Wolverines are 8-1 and Indians 7-0. While both teams have great offense, it's the Defenses that should make the difference. On offense West Allegheny averages 31.7 ppg, while Woodland average 34.7. Due to league realignment these two now square off to see who can capture league. In Rankings, WA is 1st, while WH is 4th in 5A. Both teams have great coaching and history.

West Allegheny behind QB Nick Ross and in the past 4 weeks has exploded for 161 points to only 10. In last year's duel, Woodland walked away 22-15. I actually expect more of the same here. In fact, West Allegheny has only given up 26 points all season. You could probably flip a coin to determine who wins this rubber match, however, this is Steeler country, so I will go a defensive masterpiece here.

Friday Night-

College Foots.....

Temple / So Florida Under 60...3 units...LOSS.... *Bulls coming off a very physical game against UConn and playing on a quick turnaround. Temples offense not anything like last years. Owls numbers are a bit skewed due to opponents (Stony Brook, and SMU, Charlotte) where the average was 43.7 ppg. Against teams of their ilk they haven't topped 27 points. So. Florida wants to run. Temple D is adequate against run (allows 3.7 yards pc) This game total appears to be too high. Temple is 7-0 to the Under as a home dog past 3 years. I think the ball stays on the carpet and clock rolls.

San Diego St - 23 over San Jose St....WIN.... 3 units... *I'm a little leery of Aztecs as last week's performance was a big disappointment. Hopefully it will be a better showing this week. Spartans are 0-3 on the road allowing 45.7 ppg. They lost to Iowa St by 34 and Tulsa by 35....2 teams that are inferior to Aztecs. Pumphrey leads nation in rushing yards and should have a huge day here. SJSU allows 228.3 yards pg, on the road it shoots up to 313 ypg (6.1 yards per carry). Spartans have scored 17 or less in 5 of 7 games. Last year Aztecs won 30-7 at SJSU..... I'm thinking a more of the same tonight.

HSF Fri Night Lights.....

Mater Dei -5 over Bosco... PUSH.. ... 2 units... *Unfortunately all the great HSF games in CA take place 7 hours South. I had planned to be a part of the 18,000 spectators at Cerritos College until I came down with the NoroVirus. Oh well, at least it's televised.

Some are calling "The Battle of the Elites"... This game is huge as it will most likely decide the Trinity League Crown (arguably the toughest league in the Nation).. Bosco of course comes in 6-1 with the Lone loss coming to the nations #1 ranked superpower team Bishop Gorman. Since that loss there hasn't been a challenge.

Tonight they will get their challenge. Actually, I decided to back the Monarchs because they remind me so much of Gorman. Mater Dei is undefeated at 7-0. Most of their games are over by the half. The QB for Monarchs is a Soph JT Daniells. The kid is still growing, but right now he is 6'2" 200 lbs. He has thrown more TD passes than incompletions. 40 Tds with only 2 picks. (reminds me of T Martell of Gorman). He has a 80% completion rate going 161 of 199 passes for 2,640 yards. Considered to be the #1 Soph QB in the nation. His coach, Bruce Rollinson heaps praise on this young man and this coach should know as he coached the Heisman winner Matt Leinart, also coached Matt Barkley (of Chicago Bears) and Colt Brennan. Daniel's is a student of the game and spends copious hours studying game film. Kid has a 4.3 GPA.

Mater Dei runs a quick strike, no huddle, spread attack. The Oline is massive (something it will need to be to counter Braves pass rush). JT has a bevy of top notch WR to throw the ball to. 4 of his receiving Corp have full rides to USC. Besides a heads up on league title and bragging rights, this game will give a higher seed to the Southern Section Pac-5 playoffs.

Of course if you have read some of my past stuff you know that Bosco is no slouch. They have won 23 straight games in the Trinity League. Bosco boasts a stingy D only giving up 6.5 ppg (of we take out the Gorman score). Since the loss, Braves have outscored opponents 228-39. The D will have to be strong, because Mater Dei averages 56.5 ppg and 441 ypg / 377 of those yards through the air. Mater Dei also has a lights out D only giving up 7 ppg and have posted 3 shut outs. SOMETHING has to give.

Mater Dei has 11 Div 1 ball players, while Bosco has about the same. Curiously, the Braves have owned the Monarchs, and Mater Dei would like to get the camel off their back. Bosco has played the stronger schedule, including beating Servite of Anaheim last week dropping 70 on a team that almost beat DeLaSalle. I bet on Mater Dei because they seem to have that X factor. I will see if I'm right tonight.

Sat Morning...

1. Boston College -4....over Syracuse... 3 units.. *Yeah, I know, it's been eons since BC won a game in league. Problem for Orange though is this is their first foray outside. Add to the BC off a bye week and Cuse emotional win against VA Tech and you have a recipe for disaster.

2. Indiana +3 over Northwestern... 3 units... *I really like this defense the Hoosier are sporting. I think they can pull this off.

3. Iowa +4 over Wiscy... 4 units... Badgers left a lot on the field last week only to be met with disappointment again after Michigan and OSU. Now they get to travel for an early morning game with a big game at #8 Nebraska. Perfect spot to be flat, something this QB doesn't need.

4. No. Carolina - 11...4 Units... These Target Heels are for real. These Cavs aren't.

I will see how we do here.. Gl
