YTD Record: 0-4 for -8.8 units :mj122:
Nothing can be said about my picks last week besides that they just plain sucked. No way to sugarcoat it as three of the four were big time whiffs. Anyway, I?ve pulled the boot out of my rear from getting my ass kicked and looking towards these this week:
Fresno/Wiscy Under 52.5 for 3 units ? I believe this is going to be a major ball control game with a lot of clock eaten up by the offenses. Badgers will likely have a slim lead in the second half and Bielema will be looking to just escape with a victory. The Badgers struggled against a pretty weak Northern Illinois D last week. They have some injuries on the O-line that are still there this week and it is going to hinder them from putting up any sort of significant points. Fresno gets its first look at a D1 defense after running all over UC Davis. They aren?t travelling coast to coast, but the 11 am local start time of the game is still going to be pretty early for them. Fresno has a very green QB starting for them as well. Before slinging 9 pass attempts last week, Ryan Calhoun had thrown only 5 passes back in 2007. Tomorrow, and all year, they will be relying on their running game.
Kansas St. -7 for 3 units ? Yeah on paper it appears Bill Snyder got a scare in his first game back, but the Wildcats were in control throughout. First anyone that follows 1AA knows UMass is a respectable club so it shouldn?t be a big shocker that they hung with Kansas State, and a late punt block for a TD helps make things look closer as well. The Wildcats would have won by another 20 if they had cut their penalties and turnovers in half and no one would have thought twice about that score scrolling on the ticker. Anyway, expect to see the offense correct those a bit and be more efficient this Saturday. Coffman and Banks are poised for a big game against a weak Cajun secondary.
ND/Michigan Over 46 for 2 units ? It will be a clear and bright September Saturday in Ann Arbor as the backdrop for one of these clubs to move to 2-0. Clausen and Forcier slinging passes around, one team puts up 30, the other puts up 20 and we call it a day. Neither defense is overly impressive though ND?s secondary is definitely better on paper.
Georgia -7 for 2 units ? Big bounce back game for the Dawgs. Dez Bryant eventually got to Georgia?s D last week, but for the most part they kept a very potent offense bottled up. They are going to have to rely on their D while their offense gets through early injuries and may struggle a bit, but they are capable of that especially in this game. Last week S. Carolina showed they are still lost offensively with both Garcia and the running game struggling against a very mediocre NC State D. Won?t be a blowout with a decent Gamecock D and Georgia?s offense not in complete cohesion, but a 10 point win is certainly in the works.
K-State/ULL Under 55 for 2 units ? Wildcats held UMass to 10 points excluding the blocked punt TD and the Cajuns won?t score much more than that against them. ULL defense is decent up front, but as I noted above I expect them to get passed on a bit.
Fresno +8.5 for 1 unit ? I really like them in this spot but the early game and the inexperience at QB worry me enough to make it just a small play.
