2 HSF Totals: 11-3
Dematha/Our Lady of Good Counsel Over 50...I unit... LOSS. .. *The 5th ranked national Dematha Stags try to stay undefeated against their long time rival OLGC Falcons. This is the 7th time in the last 9 years that this game is for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference crown. These two Maryland powerhouses have tremendous history, in the last 6 prior meetings for the league title game the teams have split. Between the years of 2009-2012 Falcons won all four. Still, Dematha has won 8 titles since 2003. Good Counsel coach Bob Milloy was inducted to the Maryland Hall of Fame for his commitment and successes. In last years contest Stags won convincingly 48-17.
While I kind of expect more of the same score as last year, it's important to note that both teams actually met twice, once for league and again in the playoffs. Dematha won both, however, the second contest was contested 28-23. These two always seem to hook up twice a year. Both teams score often, with Stags averaging 40.6 ppg and Falcons averaging 27.4. The Defenses are also affective with Stags holding opponents to 12.44 and OLGC 18.67.
Neither team is enamored with the pass, both have big Oline, the Stags Oline averages over 280 lbs. Dematha QB Beau English is headed to Air Force. He will pull the ball down and hit the open lanes to help boost a run attack averaging 256.7.ypg. The team lost their best RB, who broke his fibula in a preseason affair. TB Anthony McFarland was/is one of the country's most sought after rbs. The team returned 10 starters and DE Chase Young (headed to Ohio St) anchors a strong D. The Falcons also have their fair share of Div 1 prospects. They return 12 starters with almost the whole Oline is back. Defense LB Ayinde Elez (headed to Maryland)... The team does have youth in the back field.
Dematha is rolling and I'm not sure Falcons can stop them. The 14' is a tricky number, and anything can happen in these rival games. I do like the Over here as both teams can score and 50 is reasonable.
Paloma Valley / Heritage.... Over 59...2 units..LOSS (Note: I'm not exactly sure how a team can average 55 ppg in Latin 6 games, yet get shut our for 3 quarters, and the only score come by way of special teams... Embarrassing Coach) Will add 2 more to this for a total of 4 units... *I'm going to go ahead and call this my Degen HSF Total of the Year..
.
This is the battle of unbeatens. PV Wildcats are 9-0 facing rival Heritage Patriots also 9-0. I had to call my buddy down in Yucaipa to get the low down on these two. He has seen both play and feels that this one is headed to a shootout. Offensively, Patriots average 40.7 ppg while Valley average an eye popping 55.9 ppg.
These two play from different scripts. Heritage is a ball control running offense averages 283.8 ypg on the ground. Wildcats like to throw the ball around average 282.3 ypg in the air. Paloma gunslinger Chance Nolan, a Jr, has passed for 2493 yards and thrown 33 Tds. Wildcat offense has cruised for 55 points or more in their last 5 games.
Heritage hasn't lost a league game since joining the Sun Belt conference in 2010. They have won 34 consecutive Sun Belt wins in a row. This includes 6 straight conference titles. As you could guess, this one is for the league championship and a higher seeding in the section playoffs. The Wildcats feel this is their year to upset the apple cart. Senior RB Corey Maddox runs for 170.9 ypg and has 23 Tds on the ground. On the other side RB Sherod White a Jr RB averages over 100 ypg. Both teams have aggressive Olines.
Heritage D has only allowed 67 points all year. PV has given up 113. While both defenses should be commended for their play, neither Defenses have played against teams with high octane power. There are a lot of the same players on the field that played in last years 35-42 final. In fact the last 3 years each game has gone over 60 very comfortably. I expect more of the same tomorrow.
The chalk opened up at Heritage -7 and is up to 9'...if it goes over 10 I will place a unit on the underdog but for now Im satisfied with the Over.. BOL.
