This middle of the week MAC games are being unkind.
Oh well Today we have the tried and true HSF Degenerate Special for the UNI DOME CHAMPIONSHIP for IOWA. And the CAMP RANDAL Wisconsin HSF State Championship for several divisions going off Thursday and Friday.
Not much of write ups as I'm getting way behind on all the other sports.... Gotta love this time of year.
For Thursday 11/17...
Note: Gametime is 8 am for us here in the Pacific.
1. Don Bosco -8....is now -14'....2 units... WIN. Unfortunately for the Dons opponent Harris Lake the Dons are clicking on all cylinders and - 20 might not be enough for this 8 man juggernaut. Simply too many athletes on the field for Bosco and I am don't believe Harris Lake can stay with. Harris Lake is the #2 rated D however, Dons D is ranked 4th and not too shabby themselves.
2. Gladbrook-reinbeck -3 over Bishop Garrigan....LOSS.. 1 unit... And put me down for 1 unit on the Under 36' too. Gladbrook is a no stranger to the Class A Championship game as it is trying to become the first repeat Class A State Champs which hasn't been done since the 2008 & is 2009 seasons. They have managed to make it to the state title the last 3 years so the atmosphere should be adaptable. No team has scored more than 14 points on them all year.
Bishop basically cruised through their season but have really been tested the last 2 games. A 4 PT win in the Quarters and a 6 PT win in the Semis. I do expect a defensive battle, but think GR takes the W. *Start time is at 11:30 am.
From Camp Randall in Wisconsin... *1st game starts at 8 am.
3. Schullsburg /Edgar Under 35'...1 unit...LOSS.. *Schullsburg first trip to the state finals despite having a very successful veteran Head Coach for the past 33 years. On offense they average 209 yards rushing with 140 yards passing ppg. They average 34.7 ppg but only allow 6.8 ppg.
This is Edgar's 11th trip to the State Finals, but haven't won it since 2010. Edgar actually finished 3rd in their league but when the playoffs came around they flipped a switch and outscoring opponents 146-27 that included a Win against the defending state Champs 29-6. They also have a legendary Head Coach roaming the sidelines HC Jerry Sinz has coached 42 years which is truly remarkable. He has represented the Wildcats the whole time and has been inducted into the Wisconsin High Hall of Fame. This team also holds offenses down.
4. Darlington / Eau Claire Regis Over 61'....2 units..LOSS . *Darlington has been the state runner up each of the last 3 seasons, which has brought with it s sense of urgency. They finally got a camel off their back by defeating the their nemesis St Mary's Springs who had handed them losses in those finals. They beat them 24-20. The Redbirds are after their 5th state title. They average 54.2 ppg and rush for 300+ yards with a total of 445 yards. On defense they have only given up 86 points all year however, 41 of those points came in the playoffs. The Redbirds are led by Senior RB Hunter Johnson (6'1" 210 lbs) who is going to Wisconsin next year as a preferred walk on. He was the Coaches Pick for State Offensive Player of the Year. He has scored 44 TDs and 260 points (12th on the State All Time List)... He has accumulated 2,002 yards thus far. He also has 2 State Honorable Mentions blocking for him on the Oline. As a team Darlington needs 33 points to surpass the Highest Scoring Varsity team in Wisconsin History.
Eau Claire Regis Ramblers are back in the state title game for the 5th time, but hasn't made it here since 2002. This team won the Cloverbelt Conference Championship. They also have a pounding RB Noel Ortiz who has over 1,000 yards w/13 TDs (he is also the team's leading tackler on D) and was named to the All State list.
If any game has the potential to get in a shoot-out it's these two. I'll take my chances.
**Will post the later games in awhile. Gl.
