From the press:

One could say the Blue Jackets played their way into a morning skate yesterday in the United Center. The weren't scheduled to do so, but the 6- 3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night drew the ire of coach Dave King, so the boys crawled out of bed a few hours before they might have otherwise, wolfed down breakfast, hopped a bus and headed off to skate around 11 a.m. About nine hours later, they returned to the United Center and played a determined game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Yes, they lost 2-1 before 11,945, but it was the kind of performance that King and his staff -- and, for that matter, the Blue Jackets players themselves -- could almost tolerate. The Jackets were looking to play with an edge to their game, and they did.
King kept expanding on the subject. "What we've tried right now hasn't been so successful, so you've got to juggle a little bit,'' he said. "That means you might see a lot of line combinations
We haven't been winning too many games 2-1,'' left winger Ray Whitney said, "so we thought we'd try something different.''
The Blue Jackets SCORED MORE THAN 3 GOALS for only the fourth time this season. They matched their scoring high, set previously in a 5-1 victory in Boston on Nov. 10. They scored three power-play goals for the first time this season. They beat the team with the second- most victories in the NHL.
New York Rangers.
Brian Leetch called the Rangers "a middle-of-the-pack club" after their 4-2 loss to the Flyers on Saturday. Unless they can snap out of a SIX GAME losing streak in which they HAVE SCORED SIX GOALS, they will be lucky to remain in the Eastern Conference playoff chase at all.
"If the urgency of the situation isn't fully in front of you, there's something really wrong," coach Ron Low said after yesterday's practice. Low, who took eight stitches on top of his head after being hit by an errant Sylvain Lefebvre clearing attempt Saturday, is trying to motivate a team that has slipped from first to seventh in the East.
We've gotten back on track work-ethic wise," Brian Leetch said, "but we're still having trouble scoring and every mistake is magnified."
