GAME NOTES: The Colorado Buffaloes are set to collide with the Missouri Tigers in a Big 12 Conference affair from Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Not much has gone right for Colorado over the last two months, as the team has only two conference wins to its credit. The Buffaloes, who are 10-15 overall, have lost two straight games and eight of their last nine. On Wednesday, they were blown out by Texas Tech in an 87-69 final. Missouri has been idle for a full week, as the team was most recently in action last Saturday when it dropped a 100-63 decision to Kansas State. That lopsided loss marked the third setback in the last four games for the Tigers, who are 14-12 overall and 4-7 in conference. Missouri won the first meeting of the season with Colorado by a 66-62 final on January 26th, and the Tigers own a 93-52 advantage in the all-time series.
Colorado is limiting opponents to 63.8 ppg this season, but the Buffaloes have not been a productive offensive group, as they are generating only 62.4 ppg. Richard Roby is the leading performer for the Buffs, as he is netting 16.8 ppg to go along with 6.4 rpg. The only other double-digit scorer in the lineup is Marcus Hall, who is posting 12.8 ppg in addition to dishing out 91 assists and coming up with 44 steals. Roby was outstanding against Texas Tech last time out, as he scored 25 points to go with nine rebounds. Cory Higgins pitched in 12 points for the Buffs, who permitted the Red Raiders to shoot a staggering 61.8 percent from the floor. Colorado was also outrebounded by a 33-27 margin.
Stefhon Hannah was the leading scorer for Missouri, as he was netting 14.7 ppg to go along with 5.3 apg before being dismissed from the team for academic reasons. Unfortunately, the Tigers had found it difficult to make up those numbers in Hannah's absence. DeMarre Carroll is the leading active scorer with 13.0 ppg, but he has been bothered lately by an ankle injury and may be slowed a bit this weekend. Carroll is shooting 54.6 percent from the floor and is pulling down 7.0 rpg. Leo Lyons is posting 12.2 ppg for Mizzou, which is getting 10.7 ppg from Keon Lawrence. Matt Lawrence had 20 points on the strength of a 6-of-11 effort from three-point range against Kansas State last weekend, but the Tigers shot a lowly 37.3 percent from the floor as a team and turned the ball over 24 times. They also permitted the Wildcats to connect on 50 percent of their field goal attempts.
Colorado should prevail as this is a revenge game, especially with UM's Carroll slowed by the ankle problem. Roby will lead the way for the Buffs in what should be a close game.
