This holiday is bullshit on multiple levels.

First off, he didnt even discover this continent, others had before him.

Second, there were people here prior to his discovering it.

Third, it wasn't even the place he was looking for.

Fourth, he was a genocidal maniac. It would be like celebrating Hitler day.

I think its bullshit we celebrate this guy. Yes, Im a McCain voter. I think the far left is socialist and facist at heart. I just don't see what is gained by taking a day to celebrate someone who objectively and factually was a murderer. Thats indisputable. I think America is growing past this kind of thought but in the process we should shitcan this holiday.... at least for this person, I'm all for having a holiday.

thing about historical figures is that they were almost all bad in one way, shape or form.

it doesn't make some of their achievments worthless. I'd rather celebrate a flawed explorer than some religous BS holiday.

Tht being said, I don't get Monday off, so Columbus can go to hell.

The Germans have a whole F#ckin Month - Octoberfest:toast:

We have a President's Day (thus no to Reagan Day). As American's we have, Flag Day, Veteran's Day. Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.

How about a day for All of Us...say Parent's Day or a general Heritage Day.

This is a path America has been going down for a long time. When i was growing up in New Jersey Columbus day was a big holiday. Banks and schools closed, people were off from work. Now the system would rather have you work that day, does anybody even get paid overtime for working today?

Look at Lincoln and Washington's birthdays, 2 different days, so they came up with the trick President's day, to cut down on time off/overtime.

What it comes down to it the US trading their history for a dollar.

Ehhh, President's Day got lumped together because they added MLK Day. We aren't losing holidays - there's no conspiracy there. There just aren't very many fans of Columbus left. He got here WAY before the better white folks and he wasn't part of establishing the nation. It's pretty natural that he gets dropped from the holiday roll call.
