Not the happiest of weekends
Still feeling pretty grotty post-op and my mood wasn't helped by going 1-4 in the NRL and Super 12. My beginners' luck in the AFL continues however (2-0) at the weekend and I eventually made a nice profit for the long weekend thanks once again to the god-like genius of Stanley in the Golf forum; backing Hal Sutton as an outright to win the Houston Open at 15-1 at the NZTAB.
We started off poorly as the Eels (-6.5) drew with the Bulldogs. They got their now accustomary second-half speed wobbles as expected as the Eels came back from 14-4 down to lead 16-14 at one stage but the match finished 20-all. All other bets were on Sunday (NZ time) and I virtually pulled all my hair out from my sick bed watching the Crusaders (-3.5) blow a 75% possession and territory advantage by losing 31-32 to the Cats. An unbelievable loss; the amount of times the Crusaders lost the ball with the Cats seemingly dead and buried grew too great for me to count. An intercept try and a kick and chase 7-pointer in the last minute of the first half saw them trail 25-9 at the break and yet they almost got up in the second half despite all the errors which occurred as desperation set in. The Storm (pick 'em) led 16-6 and had the Roosters all but gone early in the second spell but let them off the hook to trail 22-16 with 10 minutes remaining. A converted try drew us level with 7 mins left but the Storm squandered their chance of setting up a matchwinning drop goal and instead saw the Roosters push o the other end for Paul Green to take the snap which gave them a 23-22 win. With the Reds trailing 17-0 to the Sharks in the first half, we were staring down the barrel of an 0-5 weekend but they recovered to win 32-27. I faded before the Cowboys (pick 'em) game finished but had the feeling it was that kind of weekend so not surprised to wake and discover we'd lost by 2 pts; 24-22
I was going to mention in the AFL picks department prior to the weekend not to plays my picks as gospel as I don't spend nearly the same amount of time on them as I do Super 12 and NRL. But the "minimalist" approach appears to be paying off so I'll include them in the wrap and weekend plays from here on, as the Super 12 season will still be over and I'm sure everyone is keen on another money-making outlet
Weekend's results:
Super 12 - 1-1
Season to date - 18-10 (64.29%)
NRL - 0-3
Season to date - 18-20 (47.37%)
AFL - 2-0
Season to date - 7-3 (70%); ML 1-0
Overall: 43-33 (56.58%)
So, in reflection, we're just above the target I set at the start of the season of 56%. The NRL obviously needs some work but I feel we may be due for a break in the coming weeks. Luck will come and go and if we can ride out the bad times then we should be ready to make hay during the good times.
Thanks also for all the notes of support. The op had a name that would fill the rest of this page but basically involved restructuring a badly bent nose. Little fun, and some painful and sleepless nites have followed. A week off work in recovery this week will hopefully allow me to attack this coming weekend's wagers with renewed relish.
Cheers
