Anyone know of any good companies I can pay to clean up my credit report. I know I can do some of this stuff myself but I dont have the time to call whoever I have to call to get some of these things cleaned up.

I used to work for a company where we had a company card.....I signed for goods on it and now I see the owner didnt pay so now they listed me as owing the balance when I never was the one who even applied for it...........balances which have been paid in full are on it.

I dont think my credit is bad now.........its just all these errors show up on it.........I thinks its just a matter of getting this old stuff cleaned up.

Maverick:

I am aware of companies that will charge several grand to do this. However, it is my understanding that you can do it yourself by some type of systematic mailing of letters to the major credit repositories.

I am looking into finding this information out for a client and would be interested in finding out how to do it on your own as my client does not have several grand to spend.

He has already used any and all disposable income to pay my retainer.

Nobody needs an attorney to do this!! It was nice of you eddie to take every last dime!!

Maverick, have a hard copy credit report pulled( $40.00+-) and on that report will be a phone # that you can should you have any questions. They also let you write an explanation for a situation like you described above right on your report.

http://www.equifax.com and choose the option that will give you your credit score. Once you get it, review it and bump this thread up or get my e-mail from jack and I'll walk you through it.

If your trying to buy a house, DON'T PAYOFF ANY DELINQUENT ACCOUNTS BECAUSE IT WILL LOWER YOUR SCORE< WAIT UNTIL YOUR REQUIRED TO BY THE LENDER.

Umm, that sounds like bad advice. I think you're in the real estate business, so maybe u know about this, but how in the heck does paying off a debt reduce your score or make u less attractive to lenders?

Maverick, I'm not pimping the book, but Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey has some nice form letters/worksheets (plus the addresses to send it to) that you can use to send to get this report cleared up. When u send the correct form with the right wording, legally, they have I think 30 business days to have it correct.

Get your current credit report. There is a report number at the top of each, which is generated by the credit companies. Go to their website. Choose the "online dispute" option. All three have it, although a couple make it hard to find, but it is there. You enter that special number at the of credit report and dispute ALL of the items you think are old, inaccurate, or bogus. Experian is especially easy. At the end they will ask if you want an email or hard copy of your report. They want you to get an email copy and will ask a couple times if you are sure you want a hard copy, but be sure to get that.

At this point the credit reporting companies have to contact the creditor and verify the debt or information. The credit card companies don't really care about old accounts and account history and won't bother replying if you contest them.

Now, when you get the new report in the mail it will tell you which were removed or verified. You will now have a new copy of the report, with only the current items. And you will have that magic little number in the upper corner, so you can contest them again.

Just like shampoo. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Keep doing it. They will wise up and limit this sooner or later.

NOTE:If anyone is planning on disputing their credit reports on-line, make sure you purchase your report from each agency INDIVIDUALLY, not a 3-report deal generated from one agency. Each agency wants a confirmation number from a report that they generated, not someone else . However, Transunion allows you to dispute stuff online WITHOUT a report number.

Check out http://www.creditnet.com and http://www.creditinfocenter.com for good info.

6-5, Bad advice!! when you deal w/lenders everyday like I do and hear them give advice to my clients everyday and it works. How can that be bad advice? You pay it off when the the underwriter (who are nerds anyway) conditions the loan and you provide proof either on the your closing statement or a canceled check. They don't pull a new credit report before closing as long as you provide the info stated above.

Later if you pull your report(after closing) your score will be in fact lower, but your in your new house.

"When u send the correct form with the right wording, legally, they have I think 30 business days to have it correct." Wrong!! The creditor has 30 days to respond and if they don't it automatically comes off your report, but should they respond sometime in the future it comes back on

So you're saying don't pay it off DURING/AFTER starting your application process, you're not saying don't pay it off if u can at another time, correct? If you are saying don't pay off bad debt, that's bs. Sounds like you are dealing with people who are trying to borrow more money than they should be if they are playing the games u mentino above. My lender has told me on the spot both times on my new home purchases that I would get the loan. No waiting, no committee, just a solid, "CONGRATULATIONS". Too many people around here and I'm sure everywhere else buying too much house for their worth.

About the letter and the 30 days, that's semantics, as they aren't going to respond if u don't owe it.

I'm saying you pay it off when the underwriter makes it a condition, can't you read. What games are being played? WTF are you to assume that I'm burying my clients!!

6-5 I know that your above the rest of the public w/your perfect credit rating:thefinger, but most of the general public has had some form of credit issuses in the past:moon:

That's bullshit!! Errors are placed everyday on peoples credit reports and they respond when a letter it sent, so again your talking out your ass.

Maverick, get my e-mail and I'll help you out FOR FREE

having questionable credit, it was tough for me to get the house i wanted. i had plenty of cash at the time. there were only a couple of supposedly delinquent accounts. my lender said leave them alone. mine were about to drop off anyway.
i already paid one lawyer $ 600.00 to help me out and he did very little.
thanks for the advice dr.
appreciate it.

skulldog, do you bury your clients as bad as the Jeff Allen's and Jim Feist's of the world? :tongue You'll still get your commission regardless if they can pay their mortgage or not, so keep shoveling. My credit rating is not perfect. Wife's was actually higher when we got married even with all her credit cards with balances and student loans. Go figure.

Still think what I posted about the letters is correct.

Hope u get it cleared up, Maverick! :) Sounds like Ant has done this kind of stuff before.

Atta boy Eddie, bleed him dry, and then ask for advice from an internet forum how to help your client. If only your client can see his hard-earned money at work!

Lawyers

boy, some of you guys don't get eddie at all.

don't you know that his posts have some tongue in cheek in them. you should read his profile where it says that one of his interests is humor.

i'll bet that if anybody needed advice, eddie would be more than willing to help him, privately of course.
