from the start menu select run

type msconfig

click the startup tab and deselect what you don't want.

wow thats good to know. also i know there is some site where you can type in the name of processes and it will tell you what it is. i'm assuming it would also work for these. Anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, know the website? I want to uncheck some of these things but I don't want to uncheck something I need.
