computer help!

Just bought a new HP 5600 from best buy. Vista has been kicking my ass! Many compatiblity issues. I've fixed most of it ,but can't figure out this.


System came installed with Microsoft Works. I have no problem creating a file and emailing it, but if someone sends me something in works format, It WONT open. Is there a fix for this?

Geek Squad had no answers and told me to bring in my computer..

There is an open source (i.e., free) solution at http://www.openoffice.org/ They have a complete office suite of programs. They are free and work.

I have heard that you need version 8.5 of Microsoft Works for Vista. For some reason (read because Microsoft is a bunch of money-grubbing a-holes), Vista is not completely backwards compatible.
