Guys my computer has gotten a hold of something that is driving my nuts! Every 5 minutes or so...it blasts me with about 50 pop up messages. There is nothing I can do to stop them either. There is something on my computer that is labeled "Free-scratch off.com and I think it has been installed on my computer. Does anyone know what the deal is, or how in the hell to get rid of it? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have a problem as well....and Ad Aware won't fix it. Some company or person has my i.p. address.....and will send me pop up messages. This occurs even when I dont have explorer running. (Cabel Modem) However, Adaware doesnt detect the system that pops up the messages. I bet I get 20 a day.

Njs25g....

No.....It's been an hour since I've seen one....but I know they are like a beige color....and there's a blue strip across the top that says "messenger service"

Alot of times the messages read " Messages like this mean your computer is at a security risk" To elminate these types of messages....go to this website. Once or twice it's told me to call a friggin 900 number to eliminate them

This is the latest rage in spam. They are accessing the windows messenger service port on your system. I don't think they are singling anyone out. They probably have a script that runs continually to probe every ip address and trys to trigger the windows messenger service by accessing it's port. Luckily, there is a very simple solution: Get a firewall. I would suggest a hardware firewall like the Linksys BEFSR41. There are software based firewalls out there too like "Black Ice", but I would avoid them if I were you. They always seem to cause problems in the long run.

Note: The linksys I recomended above retails for about $50. You can even share your internet connection with other pc's in the house. They also make wireless models if that floats your boat.

Here's an unoriginal thought...

This crap is getting absolutely ridiculous.

But it's not just the fact that it's annoying. It's that it's pointless. I know it's cheap and easy for them, but its pointless.

People go through all this effort to defeat different pop-ups and they just find ways around it. NO, you assholes. Take the hint. We don't want them. I don't know if it's like a game with the ad programmers or something. If someone has gone through the channels to overcome spam on their computers, they don't want it and THEY WON'T RESPOND TO IT. It's not up to you to overcome those blockades. It's up to you to stop the bullshit.

OK -- here's the logic. Send me an email with the subject "PENIS ENLARGEMENT". Fine. If I have "PENIS" blocked, then I have it blocked and I don't want to read your email. So, don't send me an email that says "PEN!S ENLARGEMENT". If I have "PENIS" blocked, then I don't want to read "PEN!S". I understand its the same thing.

Advertise through normal channels and we'll respond if we want. If I go through the trouble to set up "ad blockers", then it's up to you to give up on me, not find ways around my "ad blocker". I OBVIOUSLY don't want it.

That's all. Rant over. Man I'm getting sick of it.

MAMA....

You bet....took care of it for me.....thank you very much again for the link. Funny thing happened yesterday. I hadnt received any of the pop ups since I switched that setting.....and then all the sudden yesterday....my computer had a brief trouble period where it was inoperable. 5 minutes later.....I received a popup message. Went in and looked at the setting....and it was back to its original form. Think they hacked in and changed it.

Just wondering if this is a save now program. If you are running kazaa they have a tracking program attached to their install program. It can be deleted seperately. Many programs are now containing these tracking programs. They will throw pop ups in by tracking web site you visit. Disabling cookies will solve alot of this.

you can use privacy tools in explorer to allow certain cookies and disallow most. its a pain but it is the best method I have found. Look in help menu for explanation and how to use this tool.
