Any software out there free or otherwise you'd recommend to speed up computer. I have excellent-connection showing on dsl yet computer slow--especially just after start-up.

I have CCleaner-Spyblaster and AdAware but they do little to speed things up.

Used to have software PC Doctor that came with prior computer that ran windows 95 that always seemed to work well--

I know lots of people rave on CCleaner--maybe I am not maximizing software--any tips would be appreciated

Anti virus software is probably what is slowing your computer down. While it is the safe way to go, enabling full time scanning means that every file (thousands) is scanned before it fully loads. I turn mine off and run scans on a regular basis along with spyware cleaner and do not have any problems. Since I use a broadband card for internet access, no outsider can get into my system unless the card in enabled.
