Try Zone Alarm. They have a free personal edition that's easy to use and can block all ports. It allows you to configure which apps can use which ports so your normal Internet usage shouldn't be affected too much.

Since I download soooo much stuff, I'm pretty vulnerable to hacker attack. Anyone out there know a powerful, yet free, firewall I can get a hold of? Much appreciated fellas...

A free "software" firewall may be all you want, but I personally recommend a "hardware" firewall such as a linksys or netgear. Not only is it a top quality firewall, but you get all sorts of other benefits such as sharing your broadband internet connection with all your computers in the house, parental filtering controls, networking all your computers together, etc. They also have wireless versions of the same product. (If you have a laptop, this may interest you)

Linksys Firewall

Wireless Linksys Firewall (access point)

Netgear Firewall

Wireless Netgear Firewall (access point)

The non-wireless models run around $50 bucks, and the wireless models are a little more. ;)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
