Paid the 46 bucks and upgraded my Norton stuff today.

Tried to use my computer and couldn't. Was able to get online but not able to go to any sites or pull my homepage up.

Called a friend of mine and basically he said the new download had taken over my computer. He is extremely computer literate (I'm not) and he said I was stupid for getting the upgrade and that my 2001 version would cover the anti-virus needs fine.

After we totally uninstalled the download, everything is fine.

It's 46 bucks donated at this time.

Any opinions on what I just went through today?

Few things

1] Norton Antivirus after 1 year expires. You need to pay for an upgrade. Without the upgrade you dont get the new virus protection. Your friend is wrong, it is not a waste of money

2] If you paid 46 bucks, you probably have Norton internet security and not just the antivirus which means you need to configure the software to make it work properly.

3] If he's your friend, tell him to come over to your house, offer him a beer and tell him to fix your computer :)

Lots of info required to resolve this question like which windows are you using? what did you actually buy for 46 bucks? What do you mean by you where able to get online but not able to get onto sites? Are you using highspeed or dial-up.. etc etc.. etc..

I only charge $50-65 per hr but I live in Toronto Canada :)

you got the problem i had, till you get it fixed just disable norton before you log on then enable it once you are on, there is a thread where chuck addressed my problem and a fix for it i hope, if not will call the local person who works on my pc when msn can't do it by phone like this one, and cost is 55 per hour and least i know it is working right, so if i can't do what chuck said will call them but till then i just disable norton then sign on and it works the once msn home page is on i turn norton back on. pain in the ass should of stayed with what i had but everytime i turned on and loged in had that big box update now hit ask me later for a month and said what the hell what could go wrong, well a lot did.

MOST LIKELY FIREWALL SETTINGS. IN SOME CASES YOU NEED TO UNINSTALL SOME OF THE ORIGINAL NORTON.

I THINK ON THE NORTONS BOX IT HAS A DISCLAIMER.

SOMETHING LIKE- 'IF YOU ARE A TOTAL MORON DONT BUY THIS'

I SHOULD BE ON COMEDY CENTRAL. I CRACK MYSELF UP
