Conference thoughts...

...can anybody remember a year when the ACC was worse than this one. This is a hideous conference this year. They are staying afloat in national polls only by reputation. If I had to rank the big conferences this year, I would go...

1) Big 12 - Tons of depth, just an amazing conference at the top, although some of the bottom feeders are pretty bad.

2) SEC - A drop off here, but this is deepest conference in country. The least really easy games.

3) Big East - Solid all around, the Big East has undergone a renaissance since their pathetic state a few years back.

4a) Big Ten - Fairly deep, but no flashy standout teams.

4b) Con USA - Conference has really developed nicely, plenty of good teams here.

5) ACC - This conference is a total joke, what a horrible collection of teams from top to bottom. A real drop off for them, they will be back I'm sure.

6) Pac 10 - I think it is clear this conference blows it.

You can rank em until you're blue but there really isnt a whole lot of diffence between #1 and #6.

As far as the ACC, don't sell them too short - a lot of young guys on these squads; all the experience from the last two years moved to the NBA early

I agree, I am only looking at this year. The reason ACC is so low is because of what they lost.

The differences show up in March! If you have a good read of conference strength you can call some of the tournament games much more accurately. That being said here are my rankings:

1) Big East - 3-4 teams capable of winning it all. Bottom teams pretty solid also.

2) Big 12 - Competitive in its upper echelon. But I think only Texas capable of winning 6 straight in March.

3) Pac 10 - Only one championship caliber squad, but middle of the Pac can hold their own w elite of 1 & 2.

4) ACC - The talent is there but extremely young. Maryland may not look like it now, but senior laden squad will be strong in March.

5) SEC - 2nd worst shtg conf in the country. Dont think any team in this conf can run the table. Remember Bama was supposed to be the best they had this year.

6) Big 10 - The worst shtg conf in the country. This conf is really good for under bets. Ditto for the SEC!
