I had Carolina yesterday......after what they did to Seattle and Arizona in the playoffs, I thought they would win the Super Bowl rather easily. Boy, was I ever wrong! I sure didn't think Denver's rush could get to the Carolina's QB so easily. And I thought Carolina would win the turnover battle, which goes a long way in determining the winner of any NFL game. But Denver won the turnovers, including the fumble return for a score. Denver showed why they are the NFL Champions with that outstanding defense. Congratulations to all of you who knew that before the game, 'cause I sure didn't!!

Yea Hammer, I read your post yesterday afternoon before the game....and you were right! By getting on Denver, you canceled your Carolina bet. Smart move. I was convinced Carolina would win easily yesterday.
But I think all the turnovers cost Carolina BIG TIME. When you can hold your opponent to under 200 total yards (Denver had 194 total yards), you should be able to win and cover the short point spread. But the frickin' turnovers was Carolina's downfall. But I wish I would have listened to you....

i bought that carolina&over hype, was able to get something back
from live bets but still ended up losing harshly

lesson you never learn:

no matter what game or sport it is, don't over bet it

see you next year :142smilie

I agree.....you come up with a reason to pick a side and make a bet, but just 'cause it's the Super Bowl or the National Championship game, keep your wagers within reason...don't over bet. I lost a double play (double my original bet) on the Super Bowl, but I've won plenty of them in the past too including this years NFL playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl. There are plenty of more bets coming down the road....and like you said, see ya next year!!

Turnover differential means nothing in a future game because turnovers are unpredictable

I disagree. Maybe it doesn't always hold true for a future game, but it does show a current trend that can't be ignored. Turnovers are a major factor in any NFL game, because the teams are so close in talent. Obviously, a team that has a negative turnover margin doesn't mean they will always lose to a team with a positive turnover margin....I wish it was that simple. Maybe it can't predict the winner, but consider this.....out of the top 8 teams in the NFL this year with the LEAST number of INT on offense....7 of those teams made the playoffs. Of the 12 teams with the LEAST number of INT's on defense, only one team made the playoffs. The top 6 teams with the most fumbles lost, NONE of those teams made the playoffs! I never said Carolina would win because they had a better turnover margin than Denver, but I use that stat (among many other facts) when I'm capping games. Again, it can't always predict the winner, but to say turnover differential means nothing, simply isn't true. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.
