They had 7 points today thru 3 quarters. Down 3 in the 4th he threw the pick that lead to about a 20 yard drive for the game winning touchdown. The defense was bad, but he did plenty to help reagrdless of stats. That is the same Falcons defense that gave up a ton of points to the Lions for goodness sakes.
So yes, not as much his fault as the last 2 debacles.

This 2-3 start is not Aaron Rodgers fault - and for all the people saying "they should have kept Favre" - they would be no better record wise right now w/ Favre. There are serious injury problems and overall problems with the defense. Take a look at all the running backs they have gone against and the big rushing days those backs have had. When you can't stop the run, you can't be better than a .500 team. I am a Packer season ticket holder and I do tell it like it is - this defense is the main source of the problem. Of course Rodgers is not going to be Favre - he is going to make mistakes, such as the one he threw today. But think about it - Favre might have threw 2 or 3 picks today. My point is - the blame should not be on Rodgers. I always told people too about Rodgers - you have to give this guys a minimum of 2 years before evaluating him - he's still learning every game.
So far I've been extremely impressed with him - of course all of us Packer fans are very frustrated w/ his injury history and this is unfortunately what goes along w/ Rodgers. I was one who would have liked to seen Farve still a Packer, as long as he is playing football - I hate seeing him in that Jets uniform - hate it. I did believe Rodgers would be a quality QB - w/ Green Bay or someone else - I always felt he might never get a shot w/ GB. And I felt that was ok - as Favre should have been a life long Packer. What people need to do though is let Brett go. No more comparisons. No more "well if we still had Favre". We don't. We never will again.
Of course this is all on Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. They will thrive or go down w/ the decision to go to Rodgers. However let's get to the deepest issue here - Ted Thompson's arrogance. He ultimately does what he thinks and could care less what the fans want or what others think. Now to a point I respect the hell out of him. A few years ago when he kept ignoring free agency and kept just drafting and resigning players already on team - i thought he wasn't doing enough - well last season it all came together w/ their 13-3 and near Super Bowl season. So for the most part his formula has worked. Of course he has botched some draft picks (esp. Justin Harrell, looking like Brohm, etc) - the one thing though that I think he's neglected a little too much is free agency. Now I'm not for overpaying for a few high priced free agents like teams like the Redskins and others have done - especially the old vets that you just know are overpriced. And you have to respect the decision of departing w/ Ahman Green when 90% of people in Wisconsin wanted him bck. He's damaged goods, and was good to let him go. And he's signed alot of quality current team members to extensions.
However let's fast forward to this point in time. The Packers have been millions under the cap in the last few seasons - but now it's evident w/ all the injuries being hit on defense - they need more depth at certain positions. And they know going w/ Woodson/Harris - some aging CB's - that a few injuries could doom the season. So I really wish Thompson would not think that they can just draft and resign those guys and keep doing that year in and out. At some point you need to bring in some playmakers too. Or like w/ the Ryan Grant thing - you know you are signing him - get it done rather than drag it out - I really think that still has been a major factor in the slow start. Saw signs of the running game improve a bit - but the offensive line has been less than stellar so far. Too many penalties today as well.
Now I'm not sure if you saw the game either but on that one drive for Atlanta a very bs pass interference play was called when Pack had them stopped and forced a 4th down punt. This led to a scoring drive. Then remember GB made a 42 yd FG - but a hold - push it back retry from 52 - missed. It's these little things that have hindered the season.
Remember against TB they had chances to win but Grant fumbled and they just couldn't stop TB - and gave up a lot on the ground again.
This is a team game though. Anyone expecting 13-3 or even 11-5 was dreaming. This is still a good football team, but this season 8-8 or 9-7 are more realistic projections. The Favre saga too I believe hurt the camp and preseason preparation - anyways still 11 games to go. They have some tough games coming up - the next 2 weeks will tell alot. At Seattle, then home vs. Indy - then a bye week. I'm really hoping to see this Packer team get into that bye week at 3W-4L. Still think they will be in the division race until the end.
One other note I've talked about before regarding the 2007 Packer season - the 13-3 mark was really very very misleading. They were not a 13-3 calibur team. The 3 losses were twice to bears, once to dallas. They pulled alot of games out late that could have gone either way - after analyzing it they really could have been 10-6 instead of 13-3.
Trust me being a lifelong Packer fan living close to Green Bay - it's frustrating around here right now - but most fans had very unrealistic expectations. Just honestly think of a first year NFL QB playing - and then look at how Rodgers has played - and he was really really hurting today. Take a look at a replay of todays game - look at those TD throws or play action passes he connected with - right on the money. I agree his INT was costly and a dumb throw. But in the heat of the QB moment - throws like these will be made. I'm watching the Pitt game right now - look at Big Ben's INT in first drive - it happens.
The Packers though are losing for reasons other than at the QB position. I view this as positive as QB was the biggest ?? going in. It's really the defense letting us down right now. I do have faith they will keep working on it and try to fix it. I went into this season w/ 8-8 as a goal. Anytime you do change QB - it's going to take some adjustments. And when you lose a guy like Al Harris, and have failed to address the depth though the offseason - it is coming back to haunt Thompson with the personnel they are putting out there right now.
Good thread though to spark a Packer debate. Interested to hear other's thoughts.
One last note - going into the year - whether it be Rodgers, Favre, whoever at QB - I would have circled Week 3 and Week 4 as problem weeks for this Packers team. The Dallas game, I don't think they would have won at all. And I expected that to be a hard fought game, and then travel to Tampa Bay the following Sunday. I thought that was going to be a 2 loss stretch. Today's loss was a surprise - but I did warn some people that this Falcons team was sneaky and Turner gives them a running threat and Matt Ryan is way ahead of where most of us thought he would be. Ryan threw a bad INT today too - that's going to happen - he's young, inexperienced - he'll lose some games for the Falcons as well yet this year. It's natural to underestimate a team like the Falcons because so many people think about last year's team and record - this team is alot better and it showed today.

Rogers was fine today. Was at the game and he hit the receivers when they were open. Didn't have time and no running game.. Defense sucks. Yes he did throw a pick but he is going to make a mistake. Remember Ryan made a mistake too by throwing an INT in the end zone in th fourth quarter so it all evened out.. Give the guy a break,.
Perfect day at Lambeau. Rogers gets me the fantasy points and they lose at the same time.
Also if anyone else was there that crowd today was pathetic. The fans took this game like it would be an easy win. Team flat and crowd was flat too.

Have to disagree with this thread.
Numbers dont lie.It was tied 17-17 late,so stating he played better in garbage time is just wrong.
They had some key injuries ,not only on the D,but O.Plus he played injured quite well.

People have to blame someone fo rhe losses and quite frankly Rodgers is taking the blame for a team who really just isn't that good right now.
for what its worth.....i grew up with mike mccarthy.....we both from greenfield a small neighborhood in pitts......a few of my buddies still really good friends with him.....and what they tell me is the mike wanted to keep favre....he had no choice....gm wanted him gone.
Im glad I started Rodgers in my fantasy FB league.
Because he produces,bottom line hes a top ranking QB.

Last time I checked, Rodgers played QB, not DB. Rodgers has been putting up decent numbers overall. He got off to a slow start yesterday, but isn't he still recovering from an injury? The reason for the Packers loss yesterday was their defense. How in the f**k do you allow a mediocre-at-best offense like Altanta to put up that kind of yardage/points against you? That whole defense should be fired.
No way Farve loses at home to Atlanta...............enough said..........
