I was present in Jackson, MS the June 1963 night he was shot in the back by Bryon De La Beckwith. I was a student at Millsaps College.

Although I don't necessarily ascribe to nation states (Benedict Anderson's Imagined Communities or more recent work by Calum Bolland on Imagined Borders speak to this), I am identified as a dual citizen (Canadian and American). Sorry to disrupt your myopic understanding of citizenship, but depending on circumstances, certain individuals are actually allowed to be a legal citizen of more than one country simultaneously. lol I also berate Harper and Trudeau and all the rest of the Canadian asshats as required. So, go fuck yourself.

If you call illuminating injustices "race-baiting," then our understanding of the world is vastly different, which is not at all surprising. But unlike you, I attempt to not make assumptions. I don't know your ethnic background, so I won't assume that you benefit from white privilege. However, be honest and ask yourself the following questions: Have I ever been rejected from education or employment based on my last name alone? Have people purposefully avoided interacting with me due to the colour of my skin? Has anyone ever made inappropriate racist comments directed at me? Have I ever been accosted by the police for no reason whatsoever? All of these questions and so many more evidence the presence of privileges afforded to some in our society based solely on the colour of their skin. This is undeniable. This is also what I fight against. As well, go fuck yourself.

Actually, I travel quite often, but not as much as before, and not just within North America. But I do spend quite a bit of time in the US as well. In fact, I will be spending the upcoming Christmas holidays near your old neck of the woods, Henderson, NV with my Trump-supporting American mother - the reason for my American-ness. Moreover, depending on the tenure situation, I may even be relocating to one of your "liberal states" for employment. So there's that as well. Moreover, go fuck yourself.

One doesn't need to be American to be concerned about US foreign policy. Hell, even actions that are contained within the country have worldwide consequences: forestry, wildlife, water, pollution, etc. As a person who cares about the survival of the planet, and since my scholarship does include cultural studies, social justice, and social movements, the US is a necessary locale for my work. Further, go fuck yourself.

As a communication scholar and one who actually teaches media studies at a university level, I find this statement quite offensive and patronizing. With the ubiquity of citizen journalism and the emergence of the smart phone and portable video recording technology, it is inevitable that some stories will be fabricated (some would categorize this as a unique form of trolling). However, this doesn't automatically render all of the rest untrue. Thinking otherwise would be asinine. One would only need to step outside the bubble of Warren County and thereabouts to witness the repression, oppression, and injustices that the stories I posted gesture towards, largely due to the many institutions that countless assume are normal and, thereby, refuse to challenge. Additionally, go fuck yourself.

So yeah, stereotypes and assumptions are a helluva thing. They also tend to be the purview of ignorance.
