Just thought I'd be first to stake claim to this milestone victory for the "Get-it-Done" legislators.

Wayne is always asking what have they done, why haven't they done this or that...

They got something done on immigration reform in FOUR MONTHS that the republicans - WITH THE WHITE HOUSE - chose not to get done in 6.6 years.

Continuing to listen and act on the behalf of the people who spoke in November. Way to go, Democrats.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Leading U.S. senators reached an agreement on Thursday on an immigration overhaul that would fortify U.S. borders and grant lawful status to millions of illegal immigrants, a move that could lead to a major legislative victory for President George W. Bush.

We need people to fill millions of jobs and they fill them. No sense in pretending that isn't the case. A combination of a more secure border along with a system of allowing them to work here legally seems to be a good way to manage this.

Is the wall gonna be funded with monopoly money again? That is if there even is a wall? Does the flow stop here? I doubt it. Junk legislation in my opinion that once again effects the working people in our country like most laws politicians pass. Anything in this bill that enforce laws on people who hire the new illegals? The only reason Bush is for this is for cheap labor and nothing else. This man is incapable of having compassion for anything but money.

ad blurb by Dr Sanchez:

Aliyah!!!
The Exodus Continues

This fascinating sequel to The Last Exodus traces the pathways of Sephardic Jews into Mexico and the USA.

It exposes ancient meanings, rituals, names, and practices and provides over 6000 commonly known Sephardic surnames.

U.S. town opposes "Big Brother" Mexico border fence

Wed May 16, 2007 2:07PM EDT

ARIVACA, Arizona (Reuters) - A pilot project to place a high-tech network of surveillance towers along a stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border has met boisterous opposition in this Arizona town, where some residents call it "Big Brother."

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is installing a network of nine towers with ground radar and night vision cameras to monitor a 28-mile (45-km) stretch of border near Arivaca, southwest of Tucson.

It is the first trial for the communications and technology arm of the government's Secure Border Initiative announced in 2005. Dubbed "SBInet," authorities say it will be extended across some 6,000 miles of the Mexican and Canadian borders in segments in coming years.....The Border Patrol said the system, which is being built by aerospace giant Boeing under a contract estimated at some $2 billion...

The bigger problem is Bush advocating all these Saudis to come into this country.

You have a president that swears The Arab Emirates are one of our allies and endorses turning our ports over to them. Now i ask, how sick is that ? And what is even sicker is his defense attorneys coming into this forum. :142smilie

There is a percentile of bad Mexicans coming here..but mostly they are hard workers.

The last I heard, it's Bush's so called AKMED allies that did the deed on 911.. not Pablo.

This is all a joke.

just what we need..the country flooded with unskilled, uneducated immigrants that swell the rolls of social programs.......

stealing social security numbers(i posted once before the enormous amount of scrambled wages on the social security books that can`t be matched with legit social security numbers...that l will be coming due)........

just what you want....swarms of uneducated people storming the border....who can`t speak the language....

creating another underclass.... the great richrd prior said it best;"we gettin` us some new nig--`s".....

but,as smurph said,we`ll get a quarter off a head of lettuce and all the politicians and lawyers will get their children watched, their shirts ironed and their lawns manicured....

makes sense,right?.....of course...but then again,so do non-binding resolutions.....

I don't recall saying that, but if you can provide a quote then I'll be proven wrong.

I'm just facing reality. You guys can continue with unrealistic rhetoric, but the fact is we all probably rely in some way on a daily basis with this labor force. If this were 1850, you'd be railing against the Irish and Chinese, if it were 1900, you'd be slamming the Italians. You can't get a good perspective on this while it's occuring. Come back in a generation or two and you will see that it's just another step in our history.

The best thing we can do is face reality and try to setup a way that these 10 million + jobs are legal rather than illegal. And if someone works here for several years then they deserve the same right to citizenship as immigrants from the past.

Smurph you might have said that in one of those late night drinking post you are famous for. Problem is that i might have been drunk when i thought i read it. I do remember someone saying something about lettuce and paying a quarter more but not sure it was you. I would start with the word lettuce in the search department. If that doesn't work than maybe i imagine this having one to many.

Will say this Chad--while I won't comment on merit of bill yet until I see it all -I will give the Dems credit on making concessions that allowed the issue to go forward--saw Kennedy speak on fox on matter and I believe it was only speech he ever made I liked. 1st time I ever saw him be even moderately humble.

Again haven't seen what bill is all about yet--but glad to see the 2 parties come together on trying to do something on major issue. I'll join you on the thumbs--temporarily anyway.

Smurph you make it sound like we need them in these jobs like they like them and want to stay right where they are. I have seen this first hand in my old field. When i was working for the carpenters union I slowly saw them coming into my field and that is because they were working in this field for more money than picking lettuce. We had to bring them in because they were working for non union companies for piss pay cutting our wagers. To fight back we had to bring them in which cost an american kid a pretty decent paying job. They just don't want to work in the crop field. They have brains and like to improve to. How about we also stop calling them illegal immigrants and start calling them illegal Mexicans. I don't have a problem with the legal ones but what part of the word illegal is confusing everyone? Hey guess what i have a pretty big yard and a lot of clothes and i do them myself. If Rich people are to lazy to do their own who's fault is that?

o.k....maybe it was cabbage....

no...actuallu i don`t rely on the illegal work force...and if they went home tomorrow,i`d do just fine...and so would the economy......

maybe citizens with health insurance wouldn`t have to wait 6+ hours in emergency rooms....

maybe our prisons and welfare offices wouldn`t be overrun.....

maybe i wouldn`t have to listen to geraldo rivera whining on fox news every night...i`d rather watch hogs rut.....

the unrealistic rhetoric comes from your side.....

have you for one second thought about the folks that are waiting to legally get in?...the scientists...the business people?....those that play by the rules?...

those that could possible contribute to our society immediately...that maybe now can`t come here...

have you thought about all the relatives that will be brought in?...i can`t wait to see that part of the bill.....

we`re going from anchor babies to anchor families....

what hope is there for our neighbor mexico to ever reform?......why would they...they have the solution right across the border...

this is big trouble...now.....and it will be worse later...
