Coors arrested in May for suspected DUI
Associated Press
GOLDEN, Colo. - Pete Coors, the telegenic beer company executive and chief commercial pitcher, as well as a former Senate candidate, was arrested in May for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, court officials said Thursday.

Coors was driving a 2004 Jaguar when he was pulled over in Golden by the Colorado State Patrol just before midnight on May 29, according to officials in the Jefferson County District Court clerk's office.

He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after registering a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08. He was also cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.

Coors, 59, faces a July 20 arraignment. Coors does not have a listed telephone number and messages left with local Republican officials in an attempt to reach him were not immediately returned.

Coors took over as president of the family company in 1987 and in 2000 was named chief executive of the brewer. The company has 8,500 employees and rang up $4 billion in sales in 2003. Adolph Coors merged with Molson to form the Molson Coors Brewing Co. in 2005.

Coors, a tall, silver-haired figure familiar to many as the face of the Coors television ads, was a political novice in 2004 when he decided to seek the Senate seat being given up by Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell. He won the GOP primary, but was defeated in the 2004 general election by Democrat Ken Salazar.

ASTROS 4, CUBS 2
40-year-old loses to 43-year-old
Several Cubs coaches receive citations
Game recap, Wednesday, July 19, 2006

Cubs third base coach Chris Speier received a DUI in the wee hours of Tuesday morning after failing to stop at a stop sign on his motorcycle, and minutes before Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros. Just a few hours later, manager Dusty Baker received a "WTF" citation after handing in his lineup card.

Roger Clemens got his 343rd career win, only about 100 or so seem to have come against the North Siders, as the Cubs manager filled his roster with rookies Ronnie Cedeno, Angel Pagan and newly recalled minor leaguer Ryan Theriot, prompting the WTF ruling. Apparently, Baker's best strategy against 22-season veteran Roger Clemens was to fill his lineup with three unproven rookies who had never faced the future Hall-of-Famer while Todd Walker, Phil Nevin and Neifi Perez all sat on the bench. Dusty's trifecta went 1-8 in the game.

After a leadoff home run by Houston's Craig Biggio, Greg Maddux lost again for the Cubs, marking his 200th career loss, which seems about right, considering the Cubs have missed most of his brilliant career after letting him go after 1992. While with the Atlanta Braves, Maddux pitched in three World Series and won one championship. His team won the division 10 times, and he was a six-time all-star. In 1995, he went 19-2 with a 1.63 ERA. Very "pitcherish," as Len Kasper would say.

Number of the night: 7
Times the nonsensical word, "hitterish," was uttered during the WGN-TV broadcast.
