Why would you want to put more on a game that you don't feel confident about.
The way Kerry has been pitching-I feel you are on the right side. Deciding how much is up to you.
Good Luck

just starting to put the games together now...but won't be done in time for you probably....stepping out on a -165/-175 fav huh...is there a reason?....if your going to step out on a game rather substantially think i would wait closer to gametime to gather all the elements you might need...

anyways good luck...if i have anything will post.

Milwaukee had the day off Thursday
and sometimes that is a plus. Cubs
coming home off a big 4 game series
in St.Louis. Wood has been tough on
the Brewers and I believe Milwaukee has
struck out more than anyone in the majors.
Laying a big number at -165 to -170 it
appears with Wood and the Cubs. Chicago
may be a play, but be leery of
laying too much of a bankroll on one game
as you suggest you may be inclined to do.
Good Luck - lurker - a.k.a. jenni

Game Preview: Brewers vs. Cubs
Last Updated: June 21, 2001
Teams: Milwaukee Brewers (35-34) vs. Chicago Cubs (43-27).

When: 2:20 p.m. Friday.

Where: Wrigley Field, Chicago.

Broadcasts: Cable TV - WGN. Radio - WTMJ-AM (620).

The lowdown: The Brewers have lost six of nine games to the Cubs this season and the opener of this three-game set doesn't seem like an appealing matchup. Brewers starter Jimmy Haynes has lost his last four decisions and hasn't picked up a victory since May 22. The Brewers are 7-8 in his 15 starts, but have lost four of the last five. Cubs starter Kerry Wood, who seems capable of pitching a no-hitter or setting a strikeout record each time he faces the free-swinging Brewers, has won six games in a row. In his last three games, he's struck out six batters. Against the Brewers, he generally has accrued that many by the third inning. In three series with their Central Division rival, the Brewers have not faced their former teammate, Jason Bere, who is scheduled to start the finale Sunday afternoon.

watch out on stepping up your bet, i think we can all testify that anything, and i stress anything, can happen in a baseball game. wood's control seems to be the x-factor here. if he has control, he can be devastating but when he is wild, he can have games where he gives up only 4 or 5 hits, but also 4 or 5 runs, due to these extra walks. if you feel great about it, then go ahead and go for it, but be sure to collect all the info you can, like ie said, a lot can happen before the first pitch.

2 main concerns for a Cubs wager here:

1) Cubs suspect offense. These guys have been winning more than their share of games, but they have been doing so primarily on strong starting pitching and solid bullpen help. I think that their bullpen is in reasonable shape, especially if Wood can give them 6 or 7 solid innings, but you should check the bullpen status to confirm this. Cubs have won an incredible number of one-run games, just scoring enough to get the job done, so the runline is possibly a risk here.

2) Wood is pitching on 4 days rest for the second consecutive start. He has done this only once before, this season, and in that game he got spanked (on the road) by the St. Louis Cardinals for 7 earned runs, his worst start of the campaign. He also walked a season-high 7 batters.

That being said, I think the Cubs are a strong play here
(WARNING---WARNING--WARNING)

The Brew-Crew are highly susceptible to the strikeout, a major weapon for Wood.
Check the status of Brewers Tyler Houston (hamstring) and Geoff Jenkins (bruised hand). If either of these guys sits then it's a plus. Brewers had Wednesday off, so these guys may be back in the fold.
Wood's faced the Brewers twice, recently, and 3 times on the season. He's fared quite well, but did lose 1-4 in a game against Ben Sheets (@Mil), Sexson hitting a 2-run homer. Won the others 4-3 (@Mil, Casanova 2-run homer) and 1-0 at home in a beauty 1-hit, 2-BB, 14-K complete game performance.
Another plus is that the Wood-man is totally dominating at home, even more so in day games. He has only allowed one home run at Wrigley field all season (Rickey Henderson solo shot) in 7 starts, spanning 46 innings pitched.

And to think, I just stopped in to check out the contest lines ...
... some break I'm taking, aye?
Good X in whatever you do.
