Manny Ramirez, right, delivered the key hit that lifted Boston to the win.
As he's done all through the series, Manny Ramirez drove in the big runs for the Red Sox. With the bases loaded and nobody out against Kyle Farnsworth (0-1), Ramirez slapped a two-run single to right field to give Boston a 6-4 advantage. The hit gave Ramirez 10 RBI in four games against Cubs pitching.
The Red Sox did more damage in the inning when reliever Mark Guthrie walked Kevin Millar to load the bases, Bill Mueller hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-4, and Jason Varitek drove in another run when he beat out a potential double play ball as Ramirez scored.
Varitek also drove in the first Boston run in the third with a solo homer, his second of the series. Mike Timlin (1-0) was the recipient of the Red Sox outburst, getting the win after pitching a scoreless seventh.
Game Five on Thursday will feature a classic matchup between Boston's Pedro Martinez and the Cubs' Mark Prior. The Cubs roughed up Martinez for four runs in the first two innings when these two pitchers matched up in Game One.
