Cut and run? I thought mission was accomplished?

I find it very interesting that the conservative majority is now saying that if we left now - or in the near future - that we would be cutting and running, and that we will have lost the war.

So, we have not accomplished anything substantial and sustainable with the multi-billions of dollars and thousands of lives so far?

We have not built the county back enough after decimating the infrastructure, police, military, schools, business, etc., to have it be sustainable if we left?

Let's ask this question further...if we stay until the elections in December, which I surely think makes sense...then how long until we do win the war?

Pretty sad...we have done all this, for, essentially to hear the conservatives tell it, a country who could not be sustainable. And there is obviously no end in sight, as far as I can see.

Since some of us love to paste the quotes around here...I though we already accomplished the mission? Or was that just a vote-getting photo op LIE?

Considering he was on ship that flew support for troops that defeated Saddam troops in record time and their job was done and returned to states the following day I can't see any lie in them putting up banner "Mission Accomplished" but wish they added in superior fashion.

Maybe you would like find quote in entire context of Bush saying mission accomplished in reference to war on terror. I'll save you time--you won't find one.

Now on issue of troops and how long they are there --I am quite sure and hope we have a base/ bases with some forces that remain there for long time. Would you not agree it is quite a stratagic area considering location of Syria and Iran?

Ok, that is a narrow interpretation, granted. Although, the message was not truncated for public consumption...it was a message designed to resonate and make a point to gain support. We live in the sound bite world, as you well know. What is the one line he lived on, and benefitted from, from that speech?

And, do you have an opinon on the rest of my post? Is this country in such bad shape that we can not leave them? If so, why? Have we galvanized people of bad will to COME there in our mission? And when will they be ready to roll? This situation was never hinted at by the administration. Especially when trying to gain support. A long, hard battle was never telecast when attached to $8 billion per month with an escalating amount of daily troops lost, when two years in we cannot think of leaving.

Wrong Chadman - if you did your homeowrk you would realize that the Mission Accomplished banner on the battleship....was for the battleship!!! That particular battleship had "accomplished it's mission" - The overthrow of Saddam's government.

Go read Tommy Frank's book....he explains the Mission Accomplished banner in there. The liberal media twisted the truth once again and you fell for it.

Jeez, you guys are joined at the posting hip? So, you don't agree that if we left Iraq now that we would be cutting and running? Do you want me to list the conservative legislators that are claiming that? What would we be doing? You don't want to address my questions based on some terminology, before "schooling me"?

A specific set of questions here for Spibble Spab and CHARLESMANSON. Direct questions, to make it evidently easier to know when you're up:

Do you think the country is in a shambles and would be runover by terrorists? Do you think that after all this time that we have maintained our force on this country that if we left (after the elections, even) it would be a disaster? This is an improvement? And at what cost have we created this? So, if we left, terrorists would own and run the country?

Do you think the world would think that the US could not have done whatever the Hell it wanted to do with that country, and would have lost the war by exiting (after the elections, even)?

If so, that is one SAD statement, considering what we have put into this country. But I am interested to know your thoughts. Preferably in this post, Charles.
