I heard on a radio show that Street Sense is going to skip the Belmont....

What do you think?

If I had to guess. He'll run. Street Sense is America's horse. Calvin Borel is America's jockey, butt ugly, severe under bite and all. That woman he's engaged to must have caught him as he bounced off the last branch of the ugly tree he fell from. I think the NYRA will make it worth his while to run once more. If anyone should think twice, it should be Hard Spun.
Curlin and SS would make the Belmont akin to the Affirmed/Alydar event in 1978.

Above the Clouds....
Dan with all due respect I can in no way compare those two horses to Affirmed and Alydar. That was one of the classic rivalrys of all time. The met a total of 10 times that ended in the Belmont in 1977. I was one of the biggest Affirmed fans and waited for the match ups each race day. Truly one of racings duels.

The analogy was meant for its drawing power or marketing effect only.

I guess I read too much into your post. I agree with the marketing aspect. NYRA and racing in general need a boost. Racing in NY is in a tailspin. The state continually bails NYRA out from its financial burden. I do believe a triple crown in the near future would help the whole industry.

The operative word in the papers today is, will "Probably" skip the Belmont. Why skip a prestigious event that they could easily win and may be their last opportunity. These folks are too old and too rich to be concerned about long term money. Hope they are just upset about the way they lost.

Here's what I've read on the subject in an article in the DRF.

"Right now, I'd say I don't think we're going to run in the Belmont, but there's a couple of factors that have come up, so we're going to put that decision off for a week," Nafzger said.

What we have to decide is what we want to do with him the rest of the year, because what we do regarding the Belmont will determine what we do the rest of the year," Nafzger said. "The main factor is, how did he bounce out of the Preakness? That will take a week."

At least that is not as harsh as right after the race when they asked him about the Belmont and he said something like What's the point....

I sure as hell would like to see him run.

Belmonts biggest fear right now is that 1 of the top 2 horses, either Street Sense or Curlin will pull out. If either one does then it's just another stakes race and they will lose millions.
They'll both go and get beaten by a fresh runner.
