Was hoping for a better number on these two but going to take them both now.

Gordon +800
Hamlin +800

May add more to them later but this is it for now.

Thanks Lugs! I've been looking at Newman as well. Best of luck!

Don`t let me talk you into it but that car he`s driving here at Darlington is not a bad one! He ran it at Phoenix this year was running 3rd with 75 to go and finished 7th.
A five year average shows Newman in the top 3 with the Nascar points. He`s never won here but loves this track.

NASCAR Picks for Darlington

by Brian Polking, Sunday, April 6, 2014 11:24:32 PM CDT FFToolbox.com

Track Info:
Length: 1.366 miles
Shape: Oval
Type: Intermediate
Location: Darlington, South Carolina
View Average Finishes

The Cup Series heads to legendary Darlington Raceway this weekend, and in addition to being the oldest superspeedway in the series, the unique layout of the egg-shaped oval it apart from the rest of the tracks on the schedule. Granted, the sandpaper-like surface of Darlington has been smoothed out in recent years, but the two separately-configured sets of corners and a preferred line that keeps cars inches from the outside wall make the track downright tough on drivers. In fact, drivers bounce of the wall so frequently at Darlington that the track has been nicknamed the "Lady in Black" because of all the scuff marks that end up dotting the outside of the track by the time a race ends.
From a fantasy perspective, it is tough to rely on anything other than past results at Darlington. The track is so unique that there really isn't any comparable track to pull data from. Not surprisingly, there are certain drivers that excel at Darlington and some that never seem to figure it out. As a result, catering your roster directly to Darlington is usually the best strategy.

1. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx, Joe Gibbs Racing [Yahoo Class B]

He has absolutely owned Darlington since coming into the series in 2006. In eight starts at the track, he has posted a series-leading 5.4 average finish, and he has never finished worse than 13th. Hamlin has actually been even better at Darlington recently, reeling off four straight finishes of sixth or better and picking up a win and two second-place finishes during the stretch.

2. Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools, Hendrick Motorsports [Yahoo Class A]

Johnson has been his typical reliable self at Darlington. His 8.8 average finish at the track is the second best in the series, and in 15 starts, he has 13 top-15 finishes. In addition to his three wins at Darlington, Johnson has eight top-five finishes, including six finishes of third or better.

3. Jeff Gordon, #24 Drive to End Hunger/Axalta, Hendrick Motorsports [Yahoo Class A]

He is a seven-time winner at Darlington, and Gordon hasn't missed a beat in recent years. In his last 10 starts at the track, he has eight top-five finishes, including six finishes of third or better. During the stretch, his 7.0 average finish is the second best in the series.

4. Matt Kenseth, #20 Husky/Dollar General, Joe Gibbs Racing [Yahoo Class A]

Although Darlington was a trouble spot for Kenseth early in his career, he has more than figured out the track in recent years. Not only is he the defending winner of this weekend's race, but he has seven top-15 finishes in his last eight starts at the track. During the stretch, Kenseth has four finishes of sixth or better, including two straight.

5. Kyle Busch, #18 Mars Brands/Interstate Batteries, Joe Gibbs Racing [Yahoo Class A]

Busch offers a nice blend of consistency and upside this weekend. He is the former winner at Darlington, and he has five finishes of seventh or better in nine starts at the track. Meanwhile, Busch has reeled off four straight finishes of 11th or better at the track, posting a 7.0 average finish during the stretch.

6. Carl Edwards, #99 Fastenal/Aflac/UPS/Subway, Roush Fenway Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Aside from a couple of bad outings, Edwards has been one of the more reliable drivers at Darlington. He has compiled a 12.5 average finish in 10 starts at the track, logging eight top-15 finishes, including four straight. In fact, Edwards has reeled off three straight finishes of seventh or better at Darlington, compiling a 5.3 average finish during the stretch.

7. Brad Keselowski, #2 Miller Lite, Team Penske [Yahoo Class B]

A late wreck saddled him with a poor finish at Darlington last year, but Keselowski has been solid in his other four starts at the track. He has just a single finish outside the top 15 to go along with two finishes of seventh or better. Overall, Keselowski has a 13.8 average finish at Darlington.

8. Tony Stewart, #14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1, Stewart-Haas Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Since joining the Cup Series in 1999, Stewart's 12.3 average finish at Darlington is the fourth best in the series. Shockingly, it is also one of the few tracks on the schedule where he has never won. However, Stewart has finished in the top 15 in his last three starts at Darlington, finishing a career-best third at the track in 2012.

9. Greg Biffle, #16 3M/Bondo, Roush Fenway Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Biffle has enjoyed a great deal of success at Darlington in his career. In 13 starts at the track, he has 10 top-15 finishes, including three straight. Meanwhile, Biffle is a two-time winner at Darlington, notching consecutive wins in 2005 and 2006.

10. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., #88 National Guard/Diet Mountain Dew, Hendrick Motorsports [Yahoo Class A]

While he only has two top-five finishes in 19 starts at Darlington, Junior has been pretty reliable at the track. He has 10 finishes of 18th or better in his last 11 starts at the track, and during the stretch, he has finished 11th or better seven times. Junior finished ninth at Darlington last year, and he should challenge for a top-10 again this weekend.

11. Kevin Harvick, #4 Budweiser/Jimmy Johns, Stewart-Haas Racing [Yahoo Class A]

Darlington hasn't been Harvick's best track, but he has more than held his own. He has 12 finishes of 17th or better in 17 starts at Darlington, including five straight. Harvick also has an 11.0 average finish at Darlington in the past five races at the track, and he finished a strong fifth in last year's Southern 500.

12. Martin Truex, Jr., #78 Furniture Row, Furniture Row Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Truex has always had a great feel for Darlington. His 11.4 average finish at the track is the third best among active drivers, and he has never finished outside the top 20 in eight starts. More importantly, Truex has seven top-15 finishes at Darlington, including three straight finishes of 12th or better

NASCAR Picks for Darlington

by Brian Polking, Sunday, April 6, 2014 11:24:32 PM CDT FFToolbox.com

13. Ryan Newman, #31 Caterpillar, Richard Childress Racing [Yahoo Class B]

He has been one of the more consistent drivers at Darlington throughout his career. Since the start of the 1999 season, his 12.3 average finish is tied for the fifth best in the series. Meanwhile, Newman has 10 top-10 finishes in 15 career starts at the track, including eight top-five finishes.

14. Kasey Kahne, #5 Farmers Insurance/Quaker State, Hendrick Motorsports [Yahoo Class A]

Kahne tends to run hot and cold at Darlington, but he always has some upside. In the last three starts at the track, he has two top-eight finishes, but in his last eight starts at the track, he has six finishes outside the top 15. Kahne definitely isn't the safest pick this weekend, but he could provide a top-10 for those willing to roll the dice.

15. Joey Logano, #22 Shell-Pennzoil, Team Penske [Yahoo Class B]

In his five Cup starts at Darlington, Logano has been tough to predict. He has a pair of top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place run in his track debut. However, he has finished outside the top 20 in his other three starts at the track. At the very least, you need to keep an eye on Logano's practice times before deciding whether or not to take a chance on him.

16. Clint Bowyer, #15 5-Hour Energy, Michael Waltrip Racing [Yahoo Class A]

Darlington has never been Bowyer's strongest track. In eight starts at the track, he has a disappointing 21.1 average finish. Worse yet, he has just a single top-10 finish compared to four finishes outside the top 20. Not to mention the fact that his lone top-10 finish came back in 2007.

17. Kurt Busch, #41 Haas Automation, Stewart-Haas Racing [Yahoo Class A]

While he hasn't been awful at Darlington, his strong runs have been few and far between. In 17 starts at the track, he has only five top-10 finishes. More concerning is the fact that he only has one top-10 in his last nine starts at Darlington. Expecting more than a top-15 finish out of Busch this weekend is a recipe for disappointment.

18. Jamie McMurray, #1 McDonald's/Cessna, Chip Ganassi Racing [Yahoo Class B]

McMurray has the makings of a decent sleeper pick this weekend. He has compiled a 16.1 average finish in 13 starts at the track, and he has finished 11th or better six times. McMurray has also finished 16th or better in five of his last seven starts at Darlington, so he should at least be good for a top-20 run this weekend.

19. Aric Almirola, #43 Smithfield Foods, Richard Petty Motorsports [Yahoo Class B]

He has only made two starts at Darlington, but both have yielded respectable results. Almirola finished 19th in his track debut in 2012 and followed it up with a 20th-place finish last season. His ceiling may not be the highest, but a driver that can provide a top-20 has its place in a lot of formats.

20. Kyle Larson, #42 Target, Chip Ganassi Racing [Yahoo Class C]

The rookie will be making his Darlington debut at the Cup level this weekend, but there is reason to be optimistic about his chances. For one, Larson has the natural talent to handle the tricky track. More importantly, the high line is the preferred line around the track, and nobody runs the high line better than Larson.

21. Marcos Ambrose, #9 Stanley/Dewalt Power Tools, Richard Petty Motorsports [Yahoo Class B]

His results at Darlington have been hit or miss, and in five starts, he has two top-15 finishes to go along with three finishes of 25th or worse. However, both of his top-15s have come in the last three races, including a career-best ninth-place run in 2012. Ambrose still isn't the greatest fantasy pick, but he has a little potential.

22. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., #17 Best Buy/Valvoline/Zest, Roush Fenway Racing [Yahoo Class B]

He made his Darlington debut at the Cup level last year, and he finished a respectable 18th. The sample size is obviously small, but assuming he can at least deliver a similar performance this weekend, Stenhouse will make a viable sleeper pick this weekend.

23. Austin Dillon, #3 Dow Chemical/Cheerios, Richard Childress Racing [Yahoo Class C]

The rookie will be making his first start at Darlington at the Cup level this weekend, so it is tough to know what to expect. That being said, he has finished 16th or better in five of the six races this season, so he has been pretty darn solid regardless of the track. Expect another respectable run out of Dillon Sunday.

24. Brian Vickers, #55 Aaron's Dream Machine, Michael Waltrip Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Darlington has been a house of horrors for Vickers at the Cup level. He has just a single top-10 finish in nine starts at the track to go along with a dismal 27.1 average finish. Worse yet, he has finished outside the top 20 in seven of his nine starts at the track.

NASCAR Picks for Darlington

by Brian Polking, Sunday, April 6, 2014 11:24:32 PM CDT FFToolbox.com

25. Paul Menard, #27 Menards, Richard Childress Racing [Yahoo Class B]

He has made seven starts at Darlington, but Menard is still looking for his first top-10 at the track. He does have back-to-back top-20s at Darlington, but overall, he has a 23.7 average finish. A top-20 is probably the best-case scenario for Menard, and his limited upside hurts his value a bit.

26. A.J. Allmendinger, #47 Kingsford/Clorox, JTG Daugherty Racing [Yahoo Class B]

Allmendinger has had a miserable time at Darlington. In six starts at the track he has compiled a dismal 28.3 average finish, and he is still looking for his first top-15 finish at the track. At this point, a top-20 finish would be a step in the right direction for Allmendinger, and fantasy owners should look for other options in most formats.

27. Justin Allgaier, #51 Brandt, HScott Motorsports [Yahoo Class C]

While he hasn't been great in 2014, Allgaier has been one of the better drivers from the smaller teams. He has consistently finished in and around the top 25, and while his value is limited to deeper leagues, Allgaier is one of the more dependable options when it comes to the serious sleepers.

28. Danica Patrick, #10 GoDaddy.com, Stewart-Haas Racing [Yahoo Class C]

She has been less-than-impressive in two starts at Darlington, but on the plus side, she did improve slightly between her first and second start. After finishing 31st in her track debut in 2012, Patrick came home 28th last year. Granted, the improvement was small, but if she takes similar baby steps this weekend, she could sneak into the top 25. That being said, Patrick is still only worth considering in very deep formats.

29. Reed Sorenson, #36 Golden Corral, Tommy Baldwin Racing [Yahoo Class C]

Sorenson is having a pretty unremarkable year overall, but he could have sneaky value this weekend for a couple of reasons. For one, Dave Blaney managed three straight finishes of 27th or better while driving for the same Tommy Baldwin Racing team Sorenson will drive for this weekend. Meanwhile, Sorenson always seems to move up from where he qualifies; and some games, including NASCAR.com Fantasy Live, use place differential as a scoring category.

30. David Gilliland, #38 Love's Travel Stops/A&W Restaurants, Front Row Motorsports [Yahoo Class B]

We are scraping the bottom of the barrel, and honestly, Gilliland is barely worth considering as an option, even in deep formats this weekend. He generally stays out of trouble, and in his last two starts at Darlington, he has snuck into the top 30. Of course, you have to be pretty desperate to use a guy that is at best going to finish around the 30th position.

I hate to do this again but I`m buying my way out of the Stewart -Bowyer matchup -135.
That tire they took off Stewart`s car was shredded! After only 30 laps. He looks to be the only one with tire issues. And even without tire issues Bowyer looks to have the better ride this weekend. I`ll just have to take a small loss here.

Another great nationwide race last night. The future is bright, especially at Hendrick with Chase Elliot in the fold. 2 wins in his first 7 races. And beating some big guns at Darlington in his first run there. Wow.
