David Duval

Not only does he shoot 13 over on Friday, withdraw on Saturday, and get beat by a lady this weekend--he proceeded to come back to Atlanta on Saturday and go 0 for 3 in a co-ed softball game against one of my good friends. What professional athlete is going to strike out in a softball game?:shrug: Then after the game, act like a complete snobbish asshole that is too good to be there. Hang 'em up, Davey. You are the pride of Georgia Tech!

I am debating he or Ken Griffey as the fastest fall from grace.

dawgball - Interesting to hear about Duval's "failure" off the course. All the more reason why he has become a poster boy of how the mental aspect of golf can crush some people. As for the fall from grace debate I would have to go with Duval. Griffey's fall is directly from injuries while Duval is a combination of many things. It's not as though Griffey has played a full season the last 3 years and just can't hit a curveball, he just doesn't get the chance.

On a sidenote to all this Griffey talk, I remember a line from a movie where high school kids debate the use of the DH and the bottom line was if they would like to see Griffey at that position later in life. As it turns out the best move for him would be to leave Cincy next year and head back to the American league. I know I'd pay to see him still playing if only to bat versus him hanging up his spikes in a year or two... yet I'm against the DH in general.

It also makes me think of other players who have collapsed as quickly as Duval. Any ideas?

Ian Baker Finch. Went from winning a major to not being able to break 80. Saw him shoot like an 88 and 89 in the Open about 10 years ago.
